Dan Boyle, who admitted that he very nearly abandoned the show, said: "I let people know I was unhappy but I talked to the producers and (they) persuaded me to stay"

Peace settles on celebrity 'Star' show as Dan sees the funny side

IT was all over once the fat man sang.

Green Party TD Dan Boyle and boyband manager Louis Walsh last night shook hands following the broadcast of RTE's 'Charity You're a Star'.

The Westlife manager and one of the three judges in the show insisted last night there had been no malice when on Tuesday he had told the four politicians "lose the fat guy".

At Dublin's Helix theatre where last night's show was staged, Mr Boyle had joked: "It's not over 'til the fat man sings."

Although he was still upset before last night's show, he relaxed later.

The Green party TD was even able to laugh off judge Louis Walsh's earlier barb.

"I suppose I am the Gary Barlow of the group," he said, in a reference to the former Take That member not known for his slimline figure.

But although the two men shook hands and made up, Louis was far from repentant earlier.

Before the show was broadcast, he said his remarks had been made in fun but insisted: "I mean he's no Twiggy - more like Fat Boy Slim."

But he insisted he had not intended his remarks to be taken too seriously.

Voted off last night's show were 'Fair City' duo Bryan Murray and Una Crawford.

They had sung a version of the Elton John and Kiki Dee hit, 'Don't Go Breaking my Heart'.

They had incurred the wrath of fellow judge Brendan O'Connor who referred to Mr Murray as "a washed-up actor" who, he said, was given a second chance in 'Fair City'.

After the show, Mr O'Connor said he was delighted that the voting public had got rid of the duo who he described as not being worth a place on the show.

Senator Feighan Feighan, of The Politicians group, said he was under no illusions about just how the people of Ireland regarded their singing ability.

He revealed how he had received a text message from fellow Fine Gael senator Joe McHugh who had heard the politicians sing and had texted them: "Jesus Christ, Frankie, what the feck was that?"

"That's the level of support we've been getting," he added.

Before taking the stage, the Green Party TD said he had been upset by Mr Walsh's jibe on Tuesday night and had let people know he was unhappy.

He said judge Linda Martin had persuaded him to stay and he felt that he could not quit the show and leave his three colleagues in the lurch or let down the Irish Hospice Foundation charity for which they were hoping to raise funds.
