Call me slow but I've just wandered back in and I'm wondering what the fuss is about

I'm not mad about anything - I just wanted to point out that the whole 'covers' debate has raged on and on over the past few years - people have told the lads, I dare say (in fact I know) the lads don't always like what they record and release but if they're not going to do anything about it then they're certainly not going to listen to what is a small percentage of their CD buying population. Kian stood up on stage in Dublin in 2005 and asked 'Who liked the Rat Pack album?' and when he didnt get a good response he laughed and said 'Well who bought it then?'

I personally don't care what they release - I know I'll buy it... I've not played my 'official' copy of the Love Album - not because its covers but I don't like most of the songs they've covered - I dont even know where it is

OK I speak as I find and sorry if that offends but I don't set out to offend and I don't open my mouth unless I know what I'm talking about - I worked in sales in the CD business for 3 years before my current job and I've had contact with their record company since 2000 so I have a vague idea of how it works and what the fans might change and what they stand no chance of changing

Jo's got a good board here... it doesnt need the 'lets do petitions' save that for the official boards where we ARE constrained by what we can and can't say or do - thats what frustrated me about that conversation - not that people had opinions - jesus I've got those too. I guess what I mean to say is you can get them to notice your opinions but to do that they can't be purely fan orientated - you have to be constructive and business like - 'We think 'insert whatever' works' because 'reason'
"We think the band should do 'blank' because 'reason'

For what its worth we've brought up the whole 'releases/covers/next album' to the record company saying what the fans think - but thats as far as we can take it - its up to SonyBmg now

Sorry for rambling

Just want to say that I've been talking to admin on .com and we won't get to see the video for TEOTH because they didnt make it in the end :( The filming was put back and in the end it didnt happen

About covers... do people on here really think that the lads havent been told that a lot of fans would prefer original stuff... they know it but its not up to them... its down to the record company and whilst people keep getting their covers and their cover albums to #1 they're not going to think its a bad idea for the lads to keep releasing them! The fan base are a small proportion of the CD buying public

Aw nooo, I was hoping we would get to see the video of but as it finally didn't happen i have to forget about it... i can't wait for the next one now, long waiting but I hope it will be a lovely one

Thanx for the info Vix!

As for the covers, as I always say I don't mind them doing covers firstly because most of the time I don't even know the originals so they are new to me and secondly when I do know the originals I think the lads do a great job. The only reason I'd prefer it if Westlife were doing original songs is that it would stop many fans and their critics from moaning all the time about them doing covers and also that it will be songs that the lads are the first ever to sing and that's a nice though hehe.

Hi Vix!
I have to say that I totally agree with what you said in your last post. It's exactly the way I feel, to be honest.
I think everything is said now about the releasing-thing, so I hope everyone is happy again :):)

I'll be honest and this is my opinion thats all - But I don't think they are that happy with what they release but its a job to them and they know what they're asked to do will deliver the results... Simon Cowell says in his book that the reason they are so successful is that they havent rebelled against what made them successful in the first place and thats true

I think it hit home to me watching a TV interview last year and they were talking about Kian being serious and he said 'In my personal life I am but now when it comes to Westlife I'm "yeah, whatever!" - Now a couple of years ago he wouldnt have said that because Westlife was all that mattered - maybe its because they're growing up and have other priorities - they've reached their dreams and exceeded them so I guess its just a lucrative job now till the formula doesnt work anymore and then they'll move on and do other things...

You're probably right Vix. I never looked at it that way, but I know it's true what you are saying. Well, I just hope I can listen to their songs for many more years.
