REVIEW: WESTLIFE - TURNAROUND

Those lovely Irish lads have done it again! “Turnaround” is Westlife’s fourth studio album, not to mention a successful “Greatest Hits” collection under their belts.

Kian, Nicky, Bryan, Shane and Mark have found a successful recipe and stuck to it well, so don’t expect any major changes in style from this CD.

The Westlife boys (ok, men) are maturing - some of them married with kids - and they feel that their music has also matured over the past five years. Kian says, “the passion and love we have for Westlife is still 100%”, and the group feel that “Turnaround” is their best album yet. Awww!

Such nice guys. You can’t help but like them, really. Title track “Turnaround” is the highlight of the album, with its’ funky, electronic, 80’s influences. There are plenty of catchy, upbeat tracks – “Hey Whatever”, 70’s classic “Mandy”, and “Thank You” are the most memorable. And, as you would expect, there are plenty of croony love songs.

There is the wonderfully cheesy “Be With You”, the soaring “Home” and the sweet ballad “Obvious”, on which the lads sing “you are my very first thought in the morning”. Sigh. Final track “What Do They Know” closes the album off nicely, tying all the styles together and leaving the listener feeling satisfied.

The verdict:
Upbeat, catchy and slick, this album is quintessential Westlife. Easy on the ears, “Turnaround” is sure to bring a smile to any pop fan’s face.

Rating: 3.5/5
