Nicky Byrne Performs With a Stone from Dad’s Grave in His Pocket Nicky Byrne has opened up about his late father and how he believes his dad will be supporting him when he represents Ireland in the Eurovision in May. The former Westlife star was speaking to the Irish Mirror before his debut performance of his Eurovision track ‘Sunlight’ on the Ray D’Arcy show last night. The singer revealed that he always keeps a memento of his father with him when he goes on stage. He said: “In the Westlife years I’d always have lucky socks. But I pretended I kept that up for years and I didn’t. What I do now, I always take a little stone from my dad’s grave and have it in my pocket.” Nicky Byrne’s Eurovision bid just got much stronger Speaking to the Mirror, the star revealed that his father Nicholas, who passed away in 2009, had been a massive Eurovision fan. He said: “My dad was a musician in a cabaret band, he was a singer. So the Eurovision music was always in the house. “When Ireland won it (in 1987) myself and my sister, who was only two years old, were jumping around the house wrapped in a tricolour. It was very patriotic, and Ireland were always there or thereabouts.” Nicky Byrne has no plans to leave 2fm. Asked if he thought his father would be watching over his performance, Nicky replied: “I hope so. Who knows? My dad was a big inspiration in my life. “His two things were football and music, which is what I ended up going on to do. Whether you believe in all that or not, this year it feels like everything just came together. “In fact loads of people I’ve met recently on the street, who my dad would have known from the music industry, other cabaret artists and stuff, have stopped me and said ‘Your dad would be so proud.’ That makes me smile. Nicky Byrne says Louis Walsh doesn’t think he will Eurovision. Source: http://rsvpmagazine.ie/nicky-byrne-perform...-in-his-pocket/ |
