Nicky Byrne opens up about Westlife's relationship with Simon Cowell The TV host admits he’s worked hard to be a success on radio Former Westlife singer Nicky Byrne has opened up about the groups relationship with Simon Cowell – likening the music mogul to Andy from Toy Story. The Dubliner admitted once One Direction signed to their label, they knew their time was up as the X Factor judge’s favourite. “To me, Simon is like Andy from Toy Story,” he said. “Westlife were the most popular toys he had, but the next toys kept coming along, like Gareth Gates, Shayne Ward and Leona Lewis. “We spent the rest of our careers hoping he’d pick us up and play with us again, because we loved him so much and knew how powerful he was,” he admitted. “Then One Direction signed to our label. They were the upcoming boxers coming to knock us out, and we didn’t have any fight left in us.” Although the band came to an end in 2012, Nicky has reinvented himself as one of Ireland’s well known radio DJ’s – presenting The Nicky Byrne Show on 2fm alongside Jenny Green. Speaking to the Irish Independent, the RTE presenter admitted he’s worked hard to be a success on the air-waves. “I was definitely an underdog but I came in and learned how to work the desk,” he told the Irish Independent. “I don’t do things half-arsed, and I wanted to be successful on radio for a long-time.” Source: http://www.goss.ie/2015/08/nicky-byrne-ope...h-simon-cowell/ |
