Bertie to bare all in three-part series charting career Bertie Ahern has given a "marathon" three-hour interview to RTE for a new series charting his 30-year career as a politician. RTE said last night the three-part documentary series, called 'Bertie', would tell the story of "the most popular Taoiseach in living memory". It comes as Mr Ahern sets about re-establishing his legacy amid the fallout of Mahon Tribunal disclosures over his personal finances. He has already set up a new website charting his achievements in office, which includes his speeches to the US Congress and British Houses of Parliament. Now, the TV programme, to be shown in November, will set about portraying Mr Ahern's rise to power and his departure from office. The three one-hour episodes will draw on interviews with Mr Ahern's children, Georgina and Cecelia. 'Bertie' will also feature interviews with Mr Ahern's close friend Joe Burke, questioned earlier this year in connection with sexual assault allegations -- which he denies. The series was filmed by Mint Productions, owned by 'Prime Time' presenter Miriam O'Callaghan and husband Steve Carson, which made the 'Haughey' series for RTE. 'Bertie' will also include interviews with Mr Ahern's former schoolfriends and his so-called "inner circle" at his constituency in Drumcondra. The station said Mr Ahern gave film-makers behind-the-scenes access during his historic trip to Washington DC earlier this year. "They did a marathon interview carried by out by Steve Carson," said an RTE source last night. Despite the huge ratings success of 'Haughey', Mint Productions was unable to persuade the late former Taoiseach to take a direct part in the series. But Mr Haughey gave his blessing to the involvement of his family and friends in co-operating with the series. Source: www.independent.ie Thanks Becca for finding /Gitta at SweetWestlifeBoys |
