In a whimsical mood today, which may have something to do with my even more whimsical workmate having a brush with musical memorabilia. I have to warn you, this post has very little to do with movies, and much more to do with celebrity trash collecting. Posted Image As the film/entertainment ed, I sit with my back to the music editor, who was (of course) at the press conference for Westlife in Christchurch yesterday (Wed). After a TV3 reporter gave each member of Westlife a pineapple lump bar (as a taste of Kiwiana, presumably) only two of them were polite enough to taste it, and all four of them left the dubious delicacy behind. (They’re only good when they’re frozen anyway - pineapple lumps, that is.) Our lovely music ed, dared to by another journo, scooped up the discarded pineapple lump bar that Nick Byrne had taken a bite out of, and once she was back at the office (with some encouragement by yours truly) put it up for auction in the music memorabilia section of TradeMe. Here’s the TradeMe post for “Pineapple lump eaten by Westlife member” , subtitled: “Nicky Byrne’s DNA” which has started gathering some rather funny questions already. I like the one that immediately makes the leap to cloning. Feel free to add your own… It was only up to $1.50 when I last looked at it. It’s a total bargain and, really, the perfect Mother’s day gift! The weirdest thing I did in the proximity of a celeb was collect Orlando Bloom’s chewing gum. I didn’t actually touch it (that would be icky), but after our interview, he’d placed the chuddy in a teaspoon and so I picked up the teaspoon and put it in a plastic bag which I took home and gave to a friend’s teenage daughter who was Blooming crazy about him. She had the chewing gum encased in resin. My sister once picked up Michael Stipe’s empty beer can and proudly hung it on her wall through her teenage years. I hope she wasn’t too crushed when he “came out” recently. Weirdest thing you’ve ever done with a celebrity cast-off? In fact, what’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever done with/near a famous person? And how much would you be willing to pay for a slightly used pineapple lump? press.co.nz |

At a press conference for Westlife's first New Zealand concert in Christchurch this morning some chick from TV3 offered the group Pineapple Lumps which they ate because, of course they had to in front of the cameras. I don't think they liked them much though as only Shane and Nicky took bites out of theirs and then they left them discarded on the table*. One man's tooth-breaking chocolate bar is another girl journo's treasure. This is the pineapple lump bar as sort-of chewed by Nicky Byrne. Perfect Mother's Day gift... er. *Please note that any monies raised from this auction will be donated to the Salvation Army with the aim of making a food parcel for someone who needs it. Waste not, want not. I'm sure Westlife _ who are active in many charities _ would agree. ** Please also note that this auctioneer decided not to give cheap confectionary as a slice of Kiwiana. Instead, Shane and Nicky were given All Black hats, bootees, mittens and a teddy bear for their children to take home as reminders of their Kiwi visit. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Music-instruments...n-154214570.htm I just had a look and it sold for.. $51.00 iw ould have paid for that Nickys dna lol |
