Brian McFadden Sets His Love In Stone

Brian McFadden is set to return to the charts in a big way, following the release of his 2nd solo album, Set In Stone. His success since leaving Westlife has been pretty good, however this album is sure to give him more success, just the type he deserves!

In a lot of the songs, such as Like Only A Woman Can, Forgive Me Twice, and Everything But You, you can tell he is (well, most likely, at least) talking about his relationship with Delta Goodrem. These songs are beautiful tracks, but it's some other tracks that are the stand-outs for me. One such track, Room To Breathe, seems to be about an obsessive ex who just won't leave you alone (like someone from Atomic Kitten, perhaps?). This is the longest track on the album, lasting a little over five and a half minutes, and has a quite dark feel to it, courtesy of the drumtrack used, as well as the constant drone in the background and simple piano chords used in the verses. One thing that threw me off at first, though, was the fact that the chorus and verses are slow and melodic, but the pre-chorus is sung in a rushed fashion.

Despite the songs about relationships, there are also some fantastic rock, dance, and just general upbeat tracks, such as Twisted and Get Away. Two of my favourite tracks on the album, though, are Zoomer and Alice In Wonderland. Zoomer is a much rockier sound than we're used to hearing from Brian, featuring distorted guitars, which get even heavier in the chorus. This track is sure to be a huge hit if released on single. Alice In Wonderland is another track that would be huge, especially in the clubs. It features a strong club beat, and, in the chorus, even features a "choir" backing which is similar to what Paul Mac used for the chorus of his massive hit "Just The Thing". The strings added in the chorus also amplify the club effect, and this track is sure to be a success in any gay club it is played in!

This album is quite different to Brian's first album, Irish Son, which I found reminded me of Robbie Williams' album, Sing When You're Winning. On this album, Brian has found his own style and sound, and is certain to have his success set in stone.

Set In Stone is out now through Universal Music.
