Related articles. Brian-related bits in bold. *** Plum job for Delta the vamp Emily Dunn Entertainment Writer October 10, 2007 http://www.smh.com.au/news/music/plum-job-...1695909066.html IT WAS the red carpet debut of the new Delta - sexy, smouldering and all grown up. But try as she might, posing for photographers at the Opera House before a special preview concert last night, Delta Goodrem is no Pussycat Doll. Three years after the release of her second album, Mistaken Identity, inspired by her experiences fighting Hodgkin's lymphoma, Goodrem proved she is still an Australian songbird darling. She wore a voluminous purple coat, figure-hugging black dress and strappy heels to pose briefly and demurely for photos. No questions were allowed from the media. Goodrem chose instead to tell her story in the songs from her new album, Delta. After beating cancer, watching the break-up of her parents and enduring tabloid scrutiny in Britain, where she was accused of breaking up the marriage of the former Westlife singer Brian McFadden and Kerry Katona, Goodrem has much to write about. The third album replaces the image of the cardigan-wearing Neighbours starlet - from her debut album Innocent Eyes - with a video of a Brigitte Bardot-styled Delta high-kicking on a chair. She has credited McFadden, now her boyfriend, with inspiring her to write the music for the album, which if all goes to plan will follow the direction of the single, In This Life, which went to No 1 on the ARIA downloads charts on its release in August. McFadden, who has been recording in Sydney, attended the concert, along with Goodrem's parents. Catherine Rondeau, one of the 100 people who won free tickets, said she had been a fan of Goodrem's since the beginning. "She is a huge inspiration and a really good role model," the 19-year-old, from Penrith, said. On her new look: "She is showing how you can be sexy but sophisticated. She is not cheap." *** Delta's not-so-innocent By Iain Shedden October 10, 2007 01:00am Article from: The Australian http://www.news.com.au/entertainment/story...2-10388,00.html THE eyes aren't quite so innocent, the look is a little raunchier and the songs are not restricted to the power-pop ballads that made her a teenage star, but it was unmistakably Delta Goodrem on stage at the Sydney Opera House last night. Looking fabulous and joined by her father and pop-star boyfriend and writing partner Brian McFadden, Goodrem, 22, launched the next phase of her stellar career at the Opera House Studio, performing material from her upcoming third album, Delta, in front of 400 invited guests. The singer, nursing a cold that hindered her between songs banter and sounding a tad nervous, performed six tracks from her new album, including the ballad Angels in the Room, dance track You Will Only Break My Heart and her current single, In This Life, which debuted at No1 in the Australian charts last month. "I'm really excited about playing these songs and performing them at Sydney Opera House," Goodrem said before the performance. The Melbourne pop star has spent much of the past two years in Europe and the US working with various producers and songwriters. After several false starts with different writing partners, Goodrem teamed up late last year with McFadden, Scottish songwriter Stuart Chrichton and US producer Tommy Lee James to work on the songs for Delta. The album is released on October 20. Goodrem has said that her latest work represents a new start in her career, following the success of earlier albums Innocent Eyes and Mistaken Identity, both of which topped the Australian charts. As well as the new songs, Goodrem tapped into her impressive back catalogue of hits, performing her first No1 song, Born To Try. Like her fellow Australian pop diva Kylie Minogue, Goodrem has had to face tough challenges in her personal life, which threatened to end her career. In 2003 she was diagnosed with Hodgkins Disease and was still recovering from treatment when she released Mistaken Identity in 2004. She also had a failed relationship with tennis star Mark Philippoussis before becoming involved with McFadden. Her current hit In This Life reflects the singer's life and career thus far and her hopes for the future. "I have faltered, I have stumbled, I have found my feet again," goes the lyric. Yesterday she said she was confident about the next phase of her career. "I'm not nervous at all about these new songs," she said. "I'm just happy about bringing them to my fans." |
