North West Hospice has opened its new centre in Sligo today.

The new facility is located in The Adelaide Centre, Wine Street Car Park in and will be home to North West Hospice Volunteer Services, its Fundraising and Communications Department as well as management and administration functions.

It’s hoped the new central location will place North West Hospice Services in the heart of the community and will provide increased accessibility for the general public.

The official opening was performed by former Westlife star and Voice of Ireland judge Kian Egan.

He says he has a very personal interest in the Hospice.

North West Hospice opens new HQ in Sligo
Updated: 10/11/15

North West Hospice opened a new Hospice Centre in The Adelaide Centre, Wine Street Car Park, Sligo, last Friday

The ‘Hospice Centre’ will be home to North West Hospice Volunteer Services, its Fundraising and Communications Department as well as some key management and administration functions.

This new central location will place these key elements of North West Hospice Services in the heart of the community and will provide increased accessibility for the general public.

The official opening of the new centre was performed by Kian Egan who cut the ribbon at the new Hospice Centre.

Speaking about the new office location, Dr Cathryn Bogan, Consultant in Palliative Medicine at North West Hospice said, “This is a very exciting time for us all at North West Hospice. This new central location will provide greater accessibility for the community to our fundraising and volunteer services, which are vital strands of North West Hospice services. The move of non-clinical departments away from our In-Patient facility in The Mall is freeing up vital space required for our clinical services. The extra space provided from this re-location of non-clinical departments will be used to enhance the delivery of palliative care to our patients and their families.”

Speaking about the move Jim Callaghan, Chairperson of North West Hospice said “This is an extremely important time in the life of North West Hospice. Patient demand for our palliative care services means we are growing in response. We are about to launch our 5-year strategic plan and the move of non-clinical departments to this new Hospice Centre is key in helping us achieve our strategic vision. North West Hospice has been built by the community to serve our community. We are delighted that our new Hospice Centre is right in the heart of our community and can continue to serve the public in an even more accessible way.”

Bernadette McGarvey, Community Relations Manager at North West Hospice added, “This is such an exciting time for us all at North West Hospice. Our new Hospice Centre will be much more accessible to our supporters and volunteers as there is ample car-parking space in Wine Street car park where we are based. People can drop in when they are in town to find out more about us or if they’d like to make a donation. Our new home in the Hospice Centre will provide a more spacious and welcoming area for the public.

"We have to fundraise one million euro every year in order to maintain our palliative care services, which is a huge challenge. Our increased office space in the Hospice Centre will allow us avail of extra help from students on placements and additional volunteer support which will greatly enhance our fundraising efforts. This extra help will be vital as we look to the future and our dream of building a purpose-built hospice for the community. We cannot wait to have you all visit our new Hospice Centre”.
