KIAN AND KEANE
Sunday Mirror, Feb 19, 2006 by LOUISA PILBEAM
E-mail Print Link WESTLIFE star Kian Egan is splashing out pounds 300,000 on shares in Celtic - even though he's not even a fan.

It means the singer will get to meet his footie hero Roy Keane.

Kian, 25, has instructed his financial advisers to buy the shares as an investment and he plans to attend a string of games towards the end of the season.

A Celtic FC source revealed: "Kian is mad about football and thinks he can make good money out of the investment.

"He doesn't really support anyone except Sligo Rovers but he's been told that he could make a killing - especially if Celtic have a good run in Europe next year.

"As far as I know this is the first time he's ventured into sports. We're expecting he's going to come down to Parkhead in May. That's when Westlife are performing in Glasgow and he'll get to meet all the players.

"He's a big fan of Ireland so he'd obviously really love to meet Roy Keane."

Kian has made more than pounds 15mil-lion in the record-breaking pop band. He earns up to pounds 45,000 for every live show, and last month he invested more than pounds 15million of his own money, spending pounds 6million on property, including two apartments in Chelsea and a six-bedroom mansion in his hometown, Sligo.

But he will have a long way to go before he challenges Celtic's major shareholder Dermot Desmond who owns 41 per cent.

Kian is the latest member of the band to take a big interest in the football business.

Ex-bandmate Brian McFadden, 25, spent more than pounds 450,000 on shares in his favourite club Coventry two years ago and revealed how he wanted to become chairman.

Bandmate Nicky Byrne, 27, was a goalkeeper for Leeds United's youth team and Shane Filan, 26, spends pounds 30,000 a year on a private box at Chelsea for his pals.

The Bhoys source added: "Kian could have bought shares in any football club he fancied but he thinks Celtic are the team of the future and it's only a matter of time before we hit the big time in Europe again."

(and he's not even a Bhoys' fan!)
