Shane plans blowout as tour ends

LAURA BUTLER – 12 FEBRUARY 2014 02:30 AM

WESTLIFE star Shane Filan is planning a star-studded party in Dublin to mark the end of his first tour as a solo artist.

The former boyband singer is to roll out the carpet over St Patrick's Day weekend in the capital and will throw a bash for dozens of family and friends.

The 34-year-old, who released his debut solo album last year, begins his new 'You and Me' tour in Liverpool on February 20.

Sligo native Shane will play 13 dates around the UK before landing on Irish shores.

He will perform at Belfast's Waterfront on March 9 and 10, before winding down over three nights in Dublin.

"Shane knows he has to make a name for himself as a solo artist. Westlife is no more and you can't lean on the band, so he's been giving it everything he has over the past while, travelling all over the place promoting himself and the record," a pal close to the popstar said.

The dad of three has stepped away from the kind of music Westlife, managed by Louis Walsh, were famous for, and is now channelling a folk-flecked, country pop sound.

The past year has certainly been a period of adjustment for the Westlife stars.

While Shane is busy climbing the music charts, Dubliner Nicky Byrne is venturing down the broadcasting route.

CONGRATULATIONS

Shane was among the first to get in touch to offer his congratulations after it was announced that Nicky will front a three-hour slot on 2fm.

"Shane will definitely be on the slot at some stage to support Nicky, he said he'd be more than happy to go on the programme," an insider told this newspaper.

"Obviously it would beneficial for him too, it's just a matter of when the interview will happen – but it will be an interesting one, the guys know each other so well."

Father-of-three Nicky, married to former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern's daughter Georgina, is to helm the 11am to 2pm time slot on the RTE radio station.

He will take over from Colm Hayes and Larry Gogan.

Meanwhile, former bandmates Mark Feehily and Kian Egan are also looking to prove themselves as solo artists.
