:o Noooooooooo...... Ian Thorpe is still the man for me :D But Phelps is coming very close. I do still think of Alexander Popov too as one of the greatest swimmers.

Tell us Lin, how's the olympic fever around you? Can you feel it in the air even there or is it just focused around Beijing?

Yay, Frantz Kruger of Finland made his way to the men discus final :D I hope he'll do well in the final, though he was the last to get there.

 Yeah, they are all great swimmers and whats different is they are in different ages.they all have ever created miracles at the respective times.
Phelps has a better looking than the other two   ...
i just think so but of coursei know,we can't judge a book by its cover :D

Huh,so hot here.you can't believe we always talk about games in the office, even when at lunch &break time. *9chat hopefully there would be a BIG screen in our office then we could watch games live on TV during working time.but think the boss might be angry with us

Ya,hope he will do his best in the final.so he might feel lucky to get into the final :D

9 year old Lin Miaoke: "Everyone knows she's a fraud"

It came to light that the nine year old girl who performed at the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics, Lin Miaoke, actually was not the voice you heard singing. She lip-synched. The real singer was Yang Peiyi, a seven-year old with a chubby face and crooked teeth, according to the Associated Press. Miaoke (photo, right) was chosen at the last minute because she was more attractive. "The audience will understand that it's in the national interest," said Chen Qigang, the musical director for the program.

When the Chinese found out about the ruse, their reactions show a starkly different cultural perspective. Many Americans would think the talented-but-chubby Yang Peiyi, whose voice has received raves, should deserve her place in the spotlight. We also would not hold the lip-synching nine year old accountable. But look at how harsh the reaction was to the two children in the AP's "Word on the street" examples:

"The organizers really messed up on this one," Luo Shaoyang, 34, a retail worker in Beijing, said Tuesday. "This is like a voice over for a cartoon character. Why couldn't they pick a kid who is both cute and a good singer? This damages the reputation of both kids for their future, especially the one lip-synching. Now everyone knows she's a fraud, who cares if she's cute?"

Others disagreed.

"They want the best-looking people to represent the face of China. I don't blame the organizers for picking a prettier-looking kid over the not-so-pretty one," said Xia Xiaotao, 30, an engineer.

"I felt so beautiful in my red dress," tiny Lin Miaoke told the China Daily.
