Galway student, Carrie McGowan is hotly tipped to become the next Miss Ireland. Carrie, who is studying Arts at NUI, Galway, is Miss Karma 2007 in association with Karma, Models Inc and Catwalk Modelling Agency. She will go forward to the Miss Ireland competition, which takes place in the Silver Springs Hotel in Cork on Saturday 30 June. The stunner from Athlone, who has just moved back to her hometown from Galway, will be competing against 26 other women, all of them hoping to be crowned Miss Ireland. A panel of judges will select nine chosen girls to proceed to the final on the evening. A tenth girl will be selected using the 'wildcard' method. This year, the wildcard entry will be selected using text voting. The girl, on the night, who gets the most text votes, will gain automatic entry to the final ten. "If I win, I will be over the moon. It is such an amazing experience. I've seen some of the other girls and they are all pretty stunning," Carrie told the Galway Independent. In 2003, Mags Humphries of Assets Model Agency and former Miss Ireland Andrea Roche took over the franchise of Miss Ireland. It proved to be a huge success with high-profile celebrities including Louis Walsh, Westlife's Kian Egan, Yvonne and Ronan Keating, and Glenda Gilson and Brian O'Driscoll in attendance on the night. The standard was high, with Miss Irish Sun Victoria le Froy coming in third place, Jenny Lee Masterson was in second, and Rosanna Davison was crowned Miss Ireland. In December of the same year, Rosanna was crowned Miss World. Last year, Carrie won the Karma/Models Inc. final and was awarded a year-long contract with Catwalk Modelling agency, which she has been working with in Galway for the past ten months. With Karma clubs in both Galway and Athlone, Carrie is sure to have plenty of supporters backing her on the night. "Everybody has been wishing me luck. I hope it goes well. I'm just going to give it my best shot on the night. It's such a good experience and a great opportunity," said Carrie. The Miss Ireland event is an evening gala dinner black tie event. Tickets cost ?120 each from Assets Model Agency, 28 Lower Leeson Street, Dublin 2. Phone: 01-6760443/4 or email tickets@missireland2007.com. Galway independant |
