I am Lithuanian and always watching the Eurovision Song Contest and always listening to the complaints of Irish experts about how unfair voting system is, and how the best song of the competition ended up to finish last. Without any doubt there is some 'voting for your neighbour' involved. Cyprus will always give 12 points to Greece, Iceland to Norway, Monaco to France, Andorra to Spain, Belarus and Ukraine to Russia. And it has always been like that. So what? The only country which really benefits from a political vote is Russia, because they have so many neighbours, and huge Russian communities live all over Eastern Europe. Russia starts the competition having some 60 to 80 extra points, which puts them well ahead of everyone. But still they have to produce really a catchy song to get these missing votes to win the competition. And that's what is all about, the winning. Who cares if Russia came fourth or 24th. The winner is Serbia. By the way, everybody is unhappy about political votes, including eastern countries. In fact, every state considers their song is the best. The only happy people always are the ones whose song won. All the others are just losers. Same with Ireland. It maybe was good a song for irish viewers, but the rest of the Europe didn't think so. You can't blame the Eastern block (into which you, for some reason, include all Balkan countries, which are not eastern Europe at all) for voting politically incorrectly, because western countries didn't vote for you either. Even the UK didn't give you a single point. The only points came from Albania which is former communist state. The truth is that no matter how the countries vote you have to produce something special to get votes from all countries, not only from neighbours, and it has always been like that. Always Eurovision has been won by the best song. If Ireland decides not to participate in the Contest, it will only show weakness. Can't produce a good song? It's your own fault. Many countries send their star performers, well known not only in their own country but also abroad. That gets them votes. Really want to win the Eurovision again? Send Westlife. Or U2. Or produce a super song or super performance. SOurce Gitta @ http://www.nishakimabry.de.vu/ |

It isn't about the song or the artist is it about where the country is... |

Its all politics, if a country neighbours another or has a great relationship with another country they vote for then and not the song x |
