Westlife is over, but my Nicky's not quite ready for the pipe and slippers
Friday July 06 2012
AFTER the madness of Westlife's final gig, I've had an easy week getting ready for a family holiday in Portugal.

Myself and Nicky are heading off with the kids for some quality time. I don't know how long we're going for, we're just going to play it by ear.

Obviously my sister Cecelia is expecting her baby, so we'll be coming back for that. I'm really excited about it and I can't wait for lots of hugs and cuddles with my new nephew or niece.

The past week involved birthday parties for one-year-olds and we also had the launch of the new website 'her.ie' at the Pink nightclub last night.

I'm writing a section on that site all about health and fitness, sharing my own tips.

SIMPLEST

But I would never say that I was an expert, not at all. I would say that I have an interest in it, given that I'm a fitness trainer and I really like trying new things.

I'm just saying, 'This is what I like to do', and talking about things that I enjoy.

It's just good to set your own goals and do things that make you happy, even if it's the simplest things such as dancing or working out. If it makes you feel better, then it's definitely worth doing.

Like a lot of girls, I talk more about healthy intentions than actually doing them and I do love things like chocolate from time to time -- I'm not a total health freak. I do try to eat healthily, but it doesn't always work out that way.

However, it is important to enjoy the sweeter things in life as well.

I try to go to the gym about three mornings a week; it all depends on how much time I have, but the twins, Rocco and Jay, were at summer camp this week so I had more time to myself and time to reflect on things.

They'll also be starting school in September, so that's another big milestone for them.

When I was first asked to contribute to 'her.ie', I felt as if it was a natural progression to all the little things that I had been doing up till now.

When I was a new mum, when I first had the boys, I started off a baby blog for a website in the UK called 'baby gurus'. And it was all about the little things such as weaning the babies off the bottle on to solid foods down to what it's like travelling with twins, and then all the other stages as well.

It wasn't completely personal or anything, but just general things that a lot of new mums could relate to. I also wrote a column with RSVP and I tried to keep that fun and light-hearted as I'm not working in the industry.

Then I set up my own blog as a hobby and I was writing that any time an idea popped into my head or whenever I had the time to do it.

RETIRE

Obviously Nicky has a little more time, too, now that Westlife finished their last gig in Croke Park. People keep asking me about 'life after Westlife', but the fact is that he's only 33 and he's not exactly ready to sit down with the pipe and the slippers and retire quietly.

There's nothing new to him having time off after a big tour; that's the way Westlife have done it for the past few years, so it's the same this time around.

They always had home life and down time after a tour, as it can be so hectic for them.

But obviously the more he's around, the better for us, and he has lots of projects on the go, such as the soccer show Football's Next Big Star, which he really enjoyed doing as it was right up his street.

It will be interesting to see what the rest of the lads get up to over the coming months. They all have their own interests and people forget that they are still young, so I'm sure they have a lot more they want to achieve.
