Charities' Lakeside cash boost
STORE bosses at Lakeside Shopping Centre have praised staff and customers for helping to raise £7,000 for breast cancer charities.

As a result, the Lady McAdden Breast Screening Unit at Southend Hospital and the Helen Rollason Heal Cancer Charity were each given £3,500.

Steve Chandler, general manager at Lakeside, presented Linda Harrison from the Lady McAdden unit and Ann Brown from Heal with cheques.

Shopper Sean Doyle from Dartford was quids in too. He won a Renault Clio, worth £8,000 in a raffle as part of the fundraising drive.

Other prizes included a signed West Ham United shirt and books autographed by Sir Cliff Richard, Coleen Rooney and Westlife.

Lakeside’s fundraising month events included one in which shoppers were asked to donate bras during a “bra amnesty,” turn up at the centre dressed in pink on Pink Sunday and pose for photos with a David Beckham lookalike.

Linda Harrison of Lady McAdden unit, said: “Donations of this magnitude are extremely important to us and we cannot thank Lakeside and its shoppers enough.

“With technology continually changing, we need to regularly update our equipment. For example, over the next few years we’ll be investing £250,000 in a digital imaging x-ray machine.”
