17th July 2008 :McFly's Tom Fletcher in secret training to be a pilot McFLY'S Tom Fletcher has been living up to his band's name by taking private flying lessons. And Tom, who has notched up 46 hours in the air, can't wait for the day when he can take his bandmates on holiday. Tom, who turns 23 today, told the Razz: "I've been training to get my pilot's licence. I've been flying for a little while. I've always wanted to learn to fly because I've always been into planes and all that." Tom is following in the footsteps of Jordan, John Travolta, and Westlife, who have also learned to be pilots. He joked: "We could have a celebrity plane fly-off with Jordan, but we'd probably crash. I flew solo to Leicester and back again and had the worst landing ever at Leiscester. The plane has only got one engine. The plan is for the future so when we go on holiday we'll get there all right." Bandmate Danny Jones, who says the boys can't afford private jets now they've left their big label, has also requested a boat licence so he can help out when the boys reach their destination. He said: "I've requested my boat licence - only to drive the guys wakeboarding. It's not exciting but it means we can go on the water when we're there." The guys are flying high as their new single One for The Radio soars towards the top of this weekend's charts. Their first output from new label Super Records could hit number one in the singles charts. The guys reckon the time is right because pop is bigger than ever as a result of comebacks from pop predecessors. Danny said: "Comebacks from old bands has helped. The pop market is strong again. For the past two years it was only us, Sugababes and Girls Aloud. Pop is popular again." And they've not ruled out collaborating with either girl band. Tom added: "It would also be cool to write with Gary Barlow." dAILY RECORD |
