"How many of those pills have you taken today?" Brandon asked, getting the more personal issue out of the way first. |

"Oh, not this again." Willow groaned and rubbed her temples. "I expected it from Annie, but you too? I don't have a problem with the pills!" |

Brandon raised an eyebrow at Willow's tone. It was defensive. Very defensive. "I didn't say you did. I asked how many you'd taken. Annie asked me to tell you she thinks it's time to start cutting back on them so you don't end up with a probem. I just wanted to know how many so we could figure out how long we can stretch our supplies. You're not the only one who could really use them anymore." he said looking her in the eyes. "I decided I could trust you as soon as we left Mount Kisco. I haven't changed my mind, but I did notice that there were more missing this morning than there should be if you were sticking to the dosage Annie reccomended. I know it hurts, but can you handle having just two every six hours? Or every five?" he said earnestly. He knew Willow was in pain, and that he might be asking her to simply tough through it, but it was better than risking forming an addiction or whatever else these things could do to her body. |

Willow ran a hand slowly across her face and slumped down on the edge of the bed. He deserved better than the defensive tones and snarky remarks she had been thinking up. She was annoyed, but she knew she shouldn't be. "I... I don't know if I can do that. Like... I know she wants me to take them every 6 hours. The bottles said that too. But that is for someone resting in a bed. I don't have the luxury of being able to relax like that. The world won't let me do that. After 4 hours, it starts to hurt and I can barely move pretty quickly after that." Willow tried to match the same earnestness that Brandon had showed her just now. Gradually, the spike of irritation was being replaced by a more somber and melancholy tone. "I mean... when the pain starts coming, I just become useless. I won't be comfortable, I won't be walking, I won't be shooting or cooking or anything. I'll just be a drain on our already limited resources. We can't... I can't have that. This... this was my idea. I wanted to come out here and finish delivering this cure rather than staying at Flint. I thought... I thought I could do it. I thought I was tough enough even after being shot. I can't let myself fall apart now though..." |

"Willow you're missing half a lung. Nobody's tougher than you. That's not an exaggeration or just a compliment. You are tough, but these things are bad for you. I know I'm asking a lot, but I need you to be even tougher. We won't fall to pieces without you at your peak, just like we've gotten by okay without me at a hundred percent, or Emmett. Nobody expects you to be jumping walls, or lifting busses. If the time comes where you absolutely have to go a little extra you'll find the pain won't stop you." he said as he sat down next to her. Brandon didn't know where this pressure was coming from. Willow had to know everyone only wanted her to be alright. What they were doing was important, but not more important than her. Not to Brandon at least. Shouldn't what he needed be important to her? More than anything he needed her to be well, even if it meant being in pain. "Please try." he implored her as he kissed her cheek. |

"But if it isn't me, or you, or Emmett, then who is left? Antonio and Eli? Antonio is too soft and Eli is... Eli." Willow groaned and buried her face into her hands. She wanted to laugh and groan at the same time. All he had to do was say some flowery words and give her a kiss and her resolve was already falling out from underneath her. She loved him, undoubtedly, but this just felt like a gross misuse of that power. "Come on, man, that just ain't fair. How do you expect me to say no after that?" |

"You can't. Because you love me. I've got you." he said teasingly as he put both his arms around her trapping her in a hug. With that out of the way relatively painlessly they could talk about the issue affecting everyone. His face was more serious as he began to speak again. "There was one other thing we need to talk about. Eli. I spoke with a few of the others earlier about this and we're all in agreement; he can't keep calling the shots. He's making decision rashly and he seems a little too... not comfortable, but too sure of his position. He's getting worse. He's hostile and paranoid, both of which have their place but he can't seem to even pretend to turn them off. I checked his bag yesterday and he had hidden the cannister. Emmett's going to intercept it, and then we're all going to tell Eli how it is, together. If he won't abide by our decision then we're going to leave him behind and manage without him." Brandon said grimly and with a little difficulty when explaining their ultimatum. The idea of leaving anyone behind made him feel uncomfortable in his skin, but especially Eli. |

"What are you talking about? What would this group do without Eli?" Willow looked at Brandon and furled her brow in confusion. "I mean, yeah, I get what you're saying. He's not been himself for a while and I think he needs a break... but we don't have anyone else. Who else could take the helm for getting to California?" Willow frowned and exhaled sharply. She turned her gaze from Brandon and lowered her eyes to look at her feet. "You just said that I don't need to push myself. Because this group always gets by. But it's only gotten by because of Eli's paranoia. I was doubtful of it at first, trust me, but I thought about it and our group has done better under Eli than it did under Randall." |

"Willow, he's acting like a psycho. Eli isn't bringing anything to the table that nobody else can. He's uninjured and he can fight. Same with Emily, Antonio, and Jimmy. That doesn't qualify him to make decisions and it doesn't make him essential, just valuable like everyone else. Taking a break is exactly what we want him to do. He's just not going to do it unless we make him. I doubt we can talk him down, because he doesn't seem to give a shit what anyone thinks. For his own good he needs to be made to back down, because he's going nuts. Have you seen him? He looks like he hasn't slept in days. He's making decisions for all of us and we're having to roll with it because he'll get himself killed if we don't. This needs to happen, before it gets out of control." Brandon said calmly. Brandon knew exactly why this had to happen and he'd made up his mind to see it happen. As soon as they were done with Salt Lake City they'd put it to him, and he could decide for himself whether he was going to go it alone or accept he had limits. "As for being better off with him at the wheel, I don't think that's true and I don't think it's fair of you to say that. We owe our survival to a lot more than Eli. He's a part of this group, not the group. We're here because we've all been doing this just as long as Eli. We can all think. We can fight. We've all dealt with enough shit that we know how to get by now, things we didn't know when Randall was with us. If he were still here we could even be doing better right now. We can't know." he said with a note of melancholy as he remembered Randall. "I know you don't like the idea. I know it feels disloyal. I feel the same way. But can you tell me honestly, when you think about Eli's behavior these last fews days, that he should be making decisions for all of us?" he asked. |

Willow groaned and clutched her head. She didn't know why this conversation was annoying her, but it was. It might have been as Brandon said, where it felt like a betrayal of Eli... but there was more to it than that. She couldn't quite put her finger on it. It was maddening. "I... I don't know. I just don't. I mean, I do know what you're saying, he isn't all there, but..." She trailed off and sagged her shoulders. She was starting to feel overwhelmed by all this. "It... I think you're right, that it needs to change. But... I don't know how to change it. Or if he even can. And if he can't change or doesn't want to... a lot can happen, I guess. I'm not making a lot of sense, am I?" |

"You're making about as much sense as any of this." Brandon said as he lay back on the bed and rested his hands on top of his head. "Why would he hide it? From us? I get this feeling like, like he's getting ready to leave for California by himself. Like he doesn't trust us, or think we're capable. He'd be fucking dead by now without us, I've had his back so many times. All of us have. I get the feeling he wants to keep us safe, but that his idea of doing that is to act like a guard dog. I mean he freaks people the fuck out for no reason, it's gonna be the start of some easily avoidable shit if he doesn't learn to chill the fuck out and hide his suspicion like everyone else. You know I'm not even sure he was interested in a peaceful outcome yesterday. I think he would have preferred we just kept shoiting at each other until they were all dead and we were completely safe. I think he only changed his mind when he fojnd out about the kids. Then he goes and tells Connor it's fine to join in, which is so fucked I... he's fourteen. It's like Eli doesn't even remember Emmett's brother. And that guy on the bridge, Darren. What the fuck was that? I don't care about the guy but somebody did. It's like he doesn't even see people as people anymore. That guy didn't deserve that and I think I have just a little more reason to hate him than Eli did... What the fuck is going on?" Brandon ranted, throwing his arms out to his sides in exasperation. He shook his head. He didn't want to worked up. Now he was thinking about Wendy and her people again. They really could have gotten by without that stuff. They always found more stuff. They really didn't have to kill them either, even though they ment to do the same to them, but as soon as they first opened fire, as soon as the first man dropped they couldn't go back. He'd give anything to go back, to rethink it, stay calm and try to find another way to deal with it all. He reached out and put his hand on the small of Willow's back and gently rubbed her. She didn't confuse him at least, well he wasn't confused about her anyway. He was in love, and was determined to stay that way. "I didn't even really want to talk about Eli. You just needed to know what the rest of us were planning, and we hoped you'd help us convince him to stay and accept that he can't be in charge until he makes more sense. I just want to talk about... literally anything. Like after all this I was thinking the first thing we should do is look for your parents. Try to find out what happened to them." ... Emily was going door to door looking for Jimmy. Eventually she found his room and let herself in without asking. "I'm staying in your room tonight. I'll take the floor, I don't care I am just not staying in a room by myself. This place gives me the creeps. Well, these people, actually." she explained. |

"Don't worry... I'm in for the whole Eli thing." Willow told Brandon. She fell backward onto the bed. Talking about the future was nicer than talking about the present, so she wasn't opposed to this change of topic. Though as flattering as the thought was, it seemed impractical. Finding Nolan had been impressive enough and they knew where he was. She could only postulate a few guesses as to where her parents had gone, but she had nothing concrete. Though for as rocky as their relationship had been in the past, she really wished they were still alive out there. "That's a pretty tall order, babe." Willow then told him somberly about his future ideas. "I'm not against it or anything though, but I doubt we'd get that lucky." |

"It's still worth trying. They're your family. Our family soon." he said rolling onto his side to look at her. "How do you think they'd react if they found out you'd gotten married to somebody you knew for about a fortnight? I think my parents would start drinking heavily, and my brother would laugh his ass off and maybe hit on you mercilessly, you know, test you." he asked with a smirk. |

Jimmy smiled and stepped out of the way. “Please, mi casa es su casa,” he said. “Even if mi casa is pretty gosh darn extraño. Anyway, come on in, sister. Can I call you sister?” |

"No. Nobody is calling me sister, not until we are waaaaaay away from Waco. Or child." Emily responded firmly. She didn't care if he was joking. She was very unhappy about the situation. |
