Dude, wake up! We've got a world to save.
Gorski listened to the blonde kid’s spiel without interrupting. He looked away from his stitched to the wall and just stared, aggravated at the world and himself for being captured – at least until he was slapped, then he stared at the kid attempting to interrogate him.

“That’s a real scary story you got there,” he said. “Killing people and torching cars, it’s real evocative stuff. But I wasn’t talking shooting first. We had you on the ground. I’m talking ‘tap, tap’ – two shots in the backs of your heads. Woulda made shit a lot simpler for us. We didn’t do that, though. So how about some gratitude?

He gave the kid – whatever his name was – a hard stare. Tried to show him that he wasn’t scared. He was, of course. He was tied up and at their mercy and he was very aware of the possibility he might never leave this room. His wrist was already hurting pretty bad, and he really didn't want to hurt any worse. He didn't want new bullet holes. He didn't even want stubbed toes or bent fingernails. But he didn’t show that. He thought maybe if he put on a brave face the kid might choose a better option.

“How about we drop this talk of bad cops and 'forgettable pain', and you cut me loose? I could ride on out of here with a few new bruises and a broken wrist, and we could call it a day. A real shitty day for both of us, maybe, but a day we both walk away from.”

"It still would have been a mistake. You really have no idea." Brandon responded disappointedly.

"Fine. I'll choose." Brandon said simply.

He turned and picked up the bottle of antibacterial gel. His hands trembled a moment but he hid it from the man. Tom. Hid it from Tom. Tom who was tied to a chair completely at his mercy. Brandon had never done anything like this before, and his insides were turning to jelly. He took a deep breath and steadied his hands.

Brandon walked around the back of the chair. The gel had stung the cuts on his hands, but it wasn't alcoholic, so Tom couldn't even look forward to a slight buzz from this. He got Tom in a head lock and turned his face upward. Then forced one of Tom's eyes open.

"Where are your friends, Tom? Where are the people who left you for dead?" he asked as he held the bottle above Tom's eye, his thumb threatening to squeeze it.

Gorski struggled in his captor’s grip. His struggle was in vain. He could no longer disguise his fear – it was very evident in his bulging eyes and raised eyebrows. It was clear to him now that this guy wasn’t going to consider a better option.

“It doesn’t even matter!” he protested. “They got guns, and they got people watching the streets day and night. You won’t even be able to get close."

Willow sat camped out on the roof of the strip club with her rifle, as requested by Eli. For once, it was an assignment that she was okay with. She already knew what they were going to do with with Gorski and she didn't really want to be a part of it. She'd had some time to cool off since the high-adrenaline gunfight and her thought process was a little different. Sure, she was pissed off over what happened, but taking out two of their own was kind of like its own retribution in a way. And nobody had died for it. She was doubting whether or not chasing after these guys any further was even worth it. They had the cure, that was what they were doing this all for. Right? What disturbed her the most was the man that she had shot. In the past, she felt a terrible sense of regret every time she had taken a life. But ever since Flint and the guys that attacked them, she hadn't. She didn't know if the guy she'd shot survived or not, but she found that she wasn't really disturbed by the fact that he may be dead. Not anymore, at least.

Willow wasn't sure how to process all of these thoughts. But the cool air was helping to clear her head a little. And the chore of keeping lookout was something as well. She had one of the spare radios on her waist, which thankfully had not been taken by Wendy and her band of goons. She absently found herself absently tapping it with her fingertip as she scanned the area around the strip club once again. They were still clear.

Jen had found a cozy little chair to relax in near Annie while she was working on Emmett. And she was the first to speak up after Annie and Eli's little exchange.

"Annie, I agree with you completely... but I kinda gotta go with Eli on this one." Jen leaned forward and admitted with the hint of a frown on her lips. "And not out of anything like vindication, but just 'cause these people are gonna keep doing that. They could have robbed the clothes off our backs if they needed them. We were pretty well off, but a lot of groups might not be. It would be a death sentence. These guys are still killing people, they just don't have the guts to do it themselves so they let the rotters do it instead."

She really thought that she sounded like some sort of post-apocalyptic Robin Hood with a justification like that. Her mom wouldn't have been surprised by that at all, actually.

"We do not understand their situation." Antonio calmly rebutted Jen. "It is not our place to run around passing judgement like that on others. They chose not to kill us which leads me to believe they are not entirely heartless. Perhaps they are a part of a larger community that has fallen on harder times. It sounds like you and Willow have taken enough from them already. And eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind, after all."

Eli stood there and listened with a stone face as Antonio and Jen got their words in as well. He was unfazed by Antonio’s predictable preaching to ‘turn the other cheek.’ And though Jen was ultimately on her side, he also didn’t share her reasoning. This wasn’t about justice or making the world safer. This was about getting back what was theirs. And it was about vengeance.

“Woah,” Annie spoke again, looking surprised. She turned to the younger woman in the room. “Jen, am I hearing you correctly? It doesn’t even sound like you’re talking about our supplies. It sounds like you’re talking about hunting and killing them.”

"Whoa, whoa, not necessarily now."

Jen held out her hands. She was a bit flustered by the rather harsh accusation.

"I admit, that sounded really bad. I guess I didn't explain that very well. What I meant to say is that they need to learn there are consequences for their actions. I mean, I don't... really know how I was planning on going about that, but I know that just letting them walk away not only leaves us in a tight spot, but gives them permission to keep on doing what they've been doing."

Annie considered that for a moment, and then turned back to Emmett. She was done cleaning the wound. It was time to get out the needle and sutures.

“I don’t know that it’s our place to police a lawless world like that,” she said. “But even if I believed it was, I’d have to ask myself – is it worth someone else from our team getting shot, or worse?”

Jen buried her face in her hands. She wasn't used to this kind of serious discussion. She supposed she would have to get used to it though.

"Oh, come on, Annie. What do you want from me? You know I don't think before I talk. I don't know what we're supposed to do here. Yeah, I would like to think that we could do something because these guys just can't keep getting away with this, is that so wrong? I don't really want to go murder them all, but I don't wanna risk our own lives either! Why can't there just be an easier way?"

Jen paused and rubbed her eyes. She was becoming pretty annoyed. She was being challenged and she didn't have an answer she could use to justify herself.

"You know what, I'm neutral! I don't care! And I'm gonna go help Willow keep watch on the roof if you need me."

"That isn't what I asked you." Brandon informed him with a sad sigh.

He steeled himself and then squeezed. He let go of Tom as the dollop of stinging gel hit his eye. He walked back over to the desk and picked up a bottle of water he'd taken from a vending machine on the way there.

"That is good information, you just got ahead of yourself, we'll get tothat stuff soon. Stings right? That's going to start itching really badly in a while. Pity you can't rub your eye, you must be getting that urge pretty intensely. I'll further incentivize this. Tell me where they are and I'll wash your eye." Brandon offered waving the bottle in front of Tom.

Eli frowned at Jen’s response. Annie hadn’t exactly won her over, but she did talk her out of supporting retaliation. As far as he was concerned, that was unacceptable. They were getting the minivan back with all their guns and food and water. Wendy and her crew were not getting away with this.

He looked to Emmett, who hadn’t yet said what he thought. He was too distracted, probably, by the pain from both the wound and the surgery. Eli wasn’t sure what he would say either. He’d been harder to predict on that front since the events of Flint.

He thought about asking him, but he didn’t want to make the issue any more of an open question. Once Gorski told them what they needed to know, they were going to act on it. That was the mission now.

“Gah! You – you blonde bitch!” Gorski cried out suddenly, loudly enough that everyone huddled by the strip club stage could hear him.

Annie frowned and shot Eli a disapproving look. Beside her, Connor looked suddenly shaken, his earlier excitement forgotten.

Eli remembered he was supposed to get Antonio and Connor out of earshot. Oops.

Gorski rattled his body in his chair. The kid was right about his urge to rub his eye. He was also right that the inability to do was driving him crazy with frustration. He directed the anger at him as his eye twitched, trying to drive the foreign substance out but probably just soaking it in deeper.

“This make you feel like a big man, kid? Huh?!” Gorski demanded. “You feel powerful, torturing a guy can’t defend himself?"

"Not really. Earning my way instead of stealing makes me feel big. How about you? How many people have you left for dead? Did it make you feel big? You know what, don't answer that it's not relevant. What is relevant is where your asshole friends are and that we're now moving onto the stapler." Brandon said scooping up the stapler and sitting on the edge of the desk.

He unscrewed the cap on the water bottle that Tom had just refused. He was about to take a drink when he offered it forward again, weighing it in one hand and the stapler in the other.

Gorski opened his eyes wide and looked at the ground, trying to get the gel with the power of gravity. He wished the kid had opted to rough him up a little, rather than go with this annoying bullshit. Somehow, he must have counted on that.

We shoulda just killed them, he thought once again. He even mouthed the words. Fuckin’ Wendy. We shoulda just killed them.

He looked up at his captor with his other eye. It was narrowed in anger and suspicion.

“I answer that question, and what do I get?” He felt intense annoyance with himself and the world as he asked. “And don’t say water. You're gonna need to do better than that.”

"If you keep answering my questions we won't continue experimenting, and neither of us has to eventually find out what the dildo is for. Honestly a little unsure about how I'm going to use that, sticking it up your ass seems a little unimaginative and you might even like it. That'd be awkward for everyone..." Brandon explained giving the comically large toy a nervous look.

"Like I said, you can walk out of here with your stuff and unharmed mostly, the wrist was an accident and the eye isn't a big deal. We'll have the doctor look at you, she's lovely. Once we have our stuff back that is. You tell us everything and we don't hurt you. You help us figure out a way to get to our stuff and take it back, preferably without killing any of your friends. Then we come back and let you go, or tell your friends over the radio where we left you and if they decide you're worth rescuing they come and pick you up. Maybe we'll use you as a hostage. Are you worth all of our stuff? I think you are, you're a good guy deep down I'm sure. That is how you get out of here. It's in your best interest to help make that happen. If you don't, I keep hurting you in worse and worse ways until I bring in Mr Bad. He won't ask you anything he'll just hurt you, and you will never leave this room. You don't have much choice here. Which one of these is it going to be?" he lay out Tom's limited choices again weighing the stapler and water.

Gorski was silent for a moment as he considered the kid’s offer – which, to be fair, he had pretty much made already. Gorski was too caught up in his regret and frustration to consider it a few minutes ago. Now he wasn’t seeing the point in resisting. Even if Wendy was worth, he didn’t know if he could hold out forever. And he didn’t want to die.

“The water,” he said, his tone becoming resigned. He nodded to the appropriate hand. “I choose the water.”

He raised his head and leaned back, ready for the kid to wash away the irritation, as promised. Now he just had to hope he was being told the truth. It sounded like he was, but he’d failed to see through lies before. His two ex-wives were proof of that.

“Wendy and my friends,” he said derisively. “They’re in Lincoln, holed up in a bar in the north end.”

"I'm really glad you chose the water. I really am. Hold still a sec." Brandon said as he placed his fingers on Tom's eye again and held it open.

Gently from toward his nose Brandon ran water over his eye. It reminded him of his mother when he would get shampoo in his eye as a kid. It was a tender memory and a tender act that was disturbingly out of place. If his mother knew what he was prepared to do just a few seconds ago he couldn't imagine she'd be proud.

"So I asked your boss before how long you'd been doing this, admittedly I was being abrasive so she didn't feel like answering. Now that we're talking I was wondering if you'd fill me in." he asked convrsationally.
