Is that so?
So... it has been a few pages since it ended, but time for some notes about my arc.

I learned a lot from this arc. After the last few arcs, I wanted to try something that was a lot more 'free form'. That is to say, I controlled the opposition, but everyone else was free to make their own choices. I didn't want to force you guys into making decisions in order to advance the plot, rather I wanted to advance the plot through your decisions. It sounds simple on paper, but I had to make more than a few on the fly adjustments to compensate. It was a bit of an experiment and things did not always flow very fluidly. I will need to adjust a few things for my next arc, but I am still curious what you guys thought of the format.

So, let's get into the plot. I had a pretty general idea of what I was doing going into this. I wanted to do a 'return of Cory' plot arc and maybe introduce a community that was too scared of him to do anything. This would give him a lot of tools that he could use to attack us. A few days before the arc started, Strompy messaged me asking if it was possible that someone could capture and beat up Brandon. Thankfully, that was very easily implemented. At the beginning with the broken bridge on the highway, I had a different scenario planned out if you all went through the city. In it, Pablo and Travis would never have shown up. There would have been hints of some previous fights in the city. It would have been similar to Vernal, where Brandon was ultimately captured by someone, but a majority of the information about the encampment would have come from someone that was captured in the chaos. In general, going through Rock Springs or south through Vernal played pretty much the same point; getting Brandon captured and introducing Green River as the antagonists.

Darren and Danica were just side characters. They were meat in case someone needed to die (and someone always needs to die). I wanted a few characters to serve as the face of Green River; which was not necessarily siding with Cory, but feeling a sense of hopelessness in fighting against him. I am pretty happy overall with how they played out; especially Darren though. The idea to kill him like that at the end of the arc was Yerishi's idea and I think it was a nice touch. How he wanted to get rid of Cory so badly that he made a deal with the devil to do it. Yeah, I just called Eli Satan. Andrea, on the other hand, was there to show that Green River was in some turmoil even before Cory showed up which made it easier for him to take control. She didn't need to be an important character for that. And she wasn't. She was murdered pretty unceremoniously by Eli.

Now time for the big one. Jen. If this was D&D, she had to make two saving throws this arc. Now I explained this to Yerishi, but I roll dice to decide the fates of characters sometimes. Random.org's random number generators have decided more than their fair share of stuff in my arcs in the past. Jen made her first roll at the 50 caliber machine gun.

Her options were:
1) Get turned into toothpaste before everyone's eyes.
2) Get an ambiguous death, but end up dead anyway.
3) Get an ambiguous death, but survive and come back later with one less leg.
4) Miraculously survive the first barrage.

RNJesus decided that option 3 was for her. That was an option I had been hoping for going into this because I wanted another amputee. Haven't had a good once since Randall, you know! And the reveal that she survived some 100 pages down the road would be fun. So, I planned that she would hang on to life, and be found by some Green River scouts the next morning who wanted to know what the devil happened last night, then brought back to Green River to recover. Where she would be for a number of days. Maybe she would meet Danica while recovering and they should share some tales of the wild, who knows? Ultimately, the thorn in that plan was revealed when Annie suggested they go back for Jen to make sure she didn't turn. And I couldn't think of a reason why they wouldn't (I thought the grazing shot to the helmet would be enough of a deterrent on its own by convincing them she got her head blown off -- I was wrong). So, I stuck to what the dice told me and had her alive. But the problem was that the other two characters I had in danger both PASSED their rolls and were still alive; Antonio did a simple 'live or die' roll during the 18-wheeler while Willow avoided her roll when Brandon refused to go down and see Cory for himself (her roll would have been 3 different rolls to determine how many of Cory's 3 shots hit her). Since they both were still alive; I couldn't rightfully just reintroduce Jen right then and there. That would make Cory feel like a pansy. Someone had to die at least. So... I rolled again.

1) Jen lives.
2) Jen dies at the roadside after being found.
3) Jen survives long enough to be treated, but dies and turns into a zombie anyway.

RNJesus this time chose 3 for her (again). Now, Jen was not a character I wanted to kill off just yet. So I was pretty glad when she survived the first time, but then pretty annoyed when she had to die at the end anyway. At least I can take solace in that she died in a way somebody needed to die; that is to say she turned into a zombie and attacked people.

Hah, chaos is indeed the word. I keep a super brief running recap in my Word document so I can easily look back and see what in-game day certain events happened on and how many in-game days have passed since then and stuff. (Day 0 is the events of Mount Kisco, Day 1 is the first day on the road). Here was Day 12:

DAY 12.2: At night, Eli/Jimmy go on mission, Brandon’s taken, everyone else goes after them, chaos at Green River
DAY 12.3: More chaos, there’s a road war, Cory loses, so does Jen, in the aftermath Eli kills Darren in a fit of rage

EDIT: Some fancasting!!! A bit earlier than usual, but lots of new names (well, new a couple pages ago) so maybe it's good to put some faces to them.

I think we might do what Brandon suggested and hunker down after all. Here's a list of the buildings on the property:

I had a strong feeling I should have said it in that post. Brandon does NOT find the cure. Eli is now keeping it hidden for protection purposes. The post where he took it back after the road war was meant to foreshadow that. (I didn't think Brandon would go looking for it so soon, but I did think he or someone else would eventually)
