Dude, wake up! We've got a world to save.
I'll let Sev get into the backstory of that choice if he wants, but a few other semi-related notes --

Remember that Jeff / Randall decision? Odd time to bring up, maybe (though not really that odd). But in case there was any doubt, that was a legitimate choice. If Brandon saved Randall, Jeff would have gotten bit on the hand instead.

And more importantly, my arc is now winding down! Probably got a page or two (and a real life day or two) to go until I'm ready to hand things off.

Strompy, you're up next. As always, as long as you're up for it, please do essentially whatever you want for as long or short as you want.

As usual, though, I think the only stipulation is the geography. Brandon's already figured out what the next destination will be -- Iowa City. So I think your only limitation is whatever happens has to happen between the hotel and our arrival in Iowa City. Not necessarily between there and Iowa City, just prior to our arrival there.

Alrighty, that's my last post for the night. Tomorrow, I'll jump forward to everyone arriving back at the hotel, provided there are no objections.

I also got my ass kicked by work today, my apologies. I'm off in 40 minutes, will post then and get us back to the hotel.

Hey Strompy, Eli's earlier conversation with Randall about Nolan was actually setting up a big dramatic moment that will conclude my arc.

"Everyone else was too shaken up by what they'd just been through or otherwise incapable of mustering that kind of functionality."

That's perfect, that's what I was hoping for. For us just to be lost and overwhelmed for a little bit. There's no bigger death than Randall, really, he was the leader, the guy everyone rallied behind. If any death is big enough to kick us in the teeth and truly leave everyone defeated, if only temporarily, it's his (Kelsey would probably be the only other team member who would have that effect). So I wanna take advantage of that, at least for a few posts.

So for that reason (plus the 'big dramatic ending note' reason) can you get rid of the line where Brandon tells everyone they have two hours and then says Iowa City is the next destination?

But I do really like the idea of Brandon being assertive and showing that kind of leadership in general. His knowledge probably makes him the most technically qualified to take up that mantle, even. I think it'll be interesting if he keeps doing that and runs into some conflict with Eli about it, especially in situations where Brandon is in the right.

So I intended to post this earlier, but forgot. But now that Randall is no longer among us, I can post some fun facts about him!

-Randall Phillips is a name very similar to a friend of mine from elementary school. The two have absolutely no relation beyond that, but when thinking of a name, his popped into my head randomly and it sounded pretty cool. So I rolled with it.

-Randall was slightly based off my dad when I started thinking of the concept. He was in construction, balding, and tried to do the right thing (even if he had no idea what the right thing was). Okay, so there weren't many similarities, but eh, details...

-He was originally more hot-headed in his original incarnation. When Eli proved himself to be a hot-head early on, I adapted Randall into someone a little more level-headed to counteract Eli. It proved to be a good balance and I'm glad I did.

-In the police college arc, Randall and Willow were supposed to be the victims for the choice event to see who Brandon would choose to lose an arm. When Yerishi got wind of it, he wanted Jeff to be part of the choice instead (since Willow seemed the odds on favorite to win every time). So it was Randall and Jeff whose hands were on the chopping block. That is how Randall lost his hand.

-Randall's romantic life: I had a subplot in my head for Randall and Glenda getting together just before Glenda died. Her death was supposed to crush his soul even further and push him away from people for fear of losing them. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a way to make that flow organically. And by the time it did, Annie was already in the picture; while it was unplanned, Randall and Annie hit it off pretty well. So well that Randall getting together with Glenda was pretty much a pipe dream and the plan was abandoned.

-The idea to kill off Randall was proposed by Yerishi. Despite his claims that he thought he had a good way of doing it, it was actually kind of a complicated process to figure out. It took us a little time to figure out a logical way for him to kick the bucket. I think it all came together well at the end of the day. But if Yerishi ever says 'No problem, I got an idea' make sure he actually does have an idea before agreeing to it.

Harrrrrrrrr

But as to the last point, only sorta true. His death was part of the original conception of the RP, much like Glenda's. And like Glenda, it's awesome that he lived as long as he did and got to do so much. 100+ pages! At the conception stage, saying "he'll die after 100 pages" would have been crazy, no one would have believed it.

(And to be fair to me, I didn't say I had a good way of actually doing it, I said it would be a good time to do it story-wise, and there would be opportunity. Before thinking about the logistics of it, I wanted to know if you were receptive or not).
