Police ask for help identifying woman BY ALIANA RAMOS News-Democrat SketchAfter more than seven months, forensic pathologists have been able to put a face to skeletal remains that were found in January. Now all they need is a name. The Illinois State Police released a sketch Tuesday of an 18- to 25-year-old white female, who may have had Hispanic traits. The victim is possibly 5 feet to 5 feet, 4 inches tall. Police are asking for the public's help in identifying the victim. The remains were found Jan. 21 by two hunters on Norfolk Southern railroad property in the 100 block of West St. Clair Avenue in Brooklyn. Because of the condition of the remains, police were unable to gauge exactly how long the remains had been there before they were discovered. Police estimate that the remains had been at there at least a year and possibly two. A colostomy bag was found near the remains, but police have not been able to determine whether this was bag was related to the victim. It's unclear whether police will enter the victim's information into the newly created victim DNA database, said Illinois State Police Master Sgt. James Morrisey. The Combined DNA Index System plus mitochondrial was created with funds from the federal government and will try to match DNA taken from skeletal remains to DNA submitted by the families of missing persons from all over the country. Anyone with information about the possible identity of the victim should call Illinois State Police Special Agent James Walker at 346-3765. Ell Only after the last tree has been cut down; Only after the last fish has been caught; Only after the last river has been poisoned; Only then will you realize that money cannot be eaten. | |
