Star Gail Boomer Above Images: Boomer, circa 1999 Vital Statistics at Time of Disappearance Missing Since: February 23, 1999 from Kansas City, Kansas Classification: Endangered Missing Date Of Birth: February 15, 1960 Age: 39 years old Height and Weight: 5'4 - 5'5, 140 pounds Distinguishing Characteristics: Blonde or light brown hair, blue eyes. Some agencies give Boomer's last name as "Hurtie." She has a rose tattooed on her chest, a bear tattooed on her outer ankle, and a partial barbed wire tattoo elsewhere on her body. Clothing/Jewelry Description: A blue jean jacket, blue jeans and sneakers. Details of Disappearance Boomer visited Uncle Mike's Bar in the 4900 block of Metropolitan Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas, near her own residence, on February 23, 1999. She originally went there with a roommate. The roommate left after finishing her drink, and planned to pick up Boomer later. When she called the bar later that day, she was told Boomer had already left with two men. Boomer was carrying a purse with $80 cash at the time of her disappearance. Witnesses at the establishment told authorities that she was involved in an altercation with another patron during the evening. The individual is believed to be a career criminal with a history of violent behavior towards women. He allegedly knocked Boomer to the ground and beat her, causing her to lose consciousness. She has never been heard from again. Authorities believe she may have been murdered in the bar and her body hidden in another location. Two men were charged with second-degree murder in Boomer's case, but the charges were dismissed because witnesses to the alleged crime refused to testify. Authorities believe that several people have information related to Boomer's case, but the individuals have not come forward. Foul play is suspected in Boomer's disappearance due to the circumstances involved. Boomer resided in the 1700 block of south 49th Street in Kansas City in 1999. She had dropped out of Turner High School, but was studying for her GED certificate. She planned to move back in with her parents. Boomer has a young son. Her case remains unsolved. Print ShareThis MyFOXKC.com Renee Pernice While the case of a missing mother from Missouri remains a mystery to law enforcement, but a possible link to another woman's disappearance may be emerging. Renee Pernice vanished from her Northland home last month. Shon Pernice, her husband, whom she was in the process of divorcing, was the last person to see her alive. Ten years ago, another woman, Star Boomer, disappeared from a bar in Kansas City and hasn't been seen since. On that night in February of 1999, Shon Pernice was at the same bar, sources told FOX4KC.com. Witnesses said Boomer got into a fight with a man at the bar. Two men were originally charged with second-degree murder, but the case was eventually dropped to avoid "double jeopardy." Boomer’s family believes it was because none of the witnesses at the bar that night would testify. "There were 13 witnesses in the bar and no one wants to come forward or say anything," Cynthia Hurtie, Star’s sister, told FOX4KC.com. Hurtie, now a private investigator, has never stopped trying to solve her sister’s case. When she heard about the specifics of Renee’s case she said, “My heart just fell to my stomach. I just put two and two together, there were two witnesses and Shon was one of them.” Related StoriesInvestigators Focus Search for Missing Missouri Mom on Park, Woods Police Question Army Husband of Missing Missouri Mom, Say Foul Play Suspected Police: Missing Kansas City Mom May Be Victim of Foul Play Police Search for Missing Mother of 3 Although Shon Pernice was never on the list of official court witnesses, he has been linked to the Boomer investigation, according to FOX4KC.com sources. “Until the day we find closure and justice for her, I can’t give up. I have to be a voice for Star,” said Hurtie. Boomer’s mother, Hazel Hurtie, holds out hope that her daughter will be found. "I believe that we will find her," she told FOX4KC.com. "I really believe that. I have never given up hope." Shon Pernice and his attorney could not be reached for comment about the story. There is a $5,000 reward for information in the Star Boomer case. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,486846,00.html |
