Classification: Non-Family Abduction
Date Of Birth: September 28, 1984
Age: 9 years old

Details of Disappearance

Crane departed from a bowling alley in Challis, Idaho on October 11, 1993. She was last seen walking towards Challis High School at approximately 6:00 p.m. that evening. Crane was headed to her family's residence nearby at the time of her disappearance. She never arrived home and has not been heard from again. She is believed to have been taken against her will by a stranger. A yellow pickup truck may be connected to her disappearance.
Keith Glenn Hescock has been investigated for possible involvement in Crane's case, and also the case of Amber Shawnell Hoopes. Hescock kidnapped a fourteen-year-old girl in June 2002. She escaped from him and he later committed suicide. Hescock had worked for the Hoopes family, and his neighbor says he was in Challis the weekend Crane disappeared. He also owned a yellow pickup truck similar to the one that may be connected to Crane's case. Authorities have not been able to link him to either disappearance, however.

Crane's case remains unsolved.

Custer County Searches For Girl Missing Since 1993

ByCHALLIS, Idaho -- Custer County authorities searched a backcountry area near Challis over the weekend as part of the investigation into the disappearance of Stephanie Crane.
Stephanie was believed to have been abducted near her Challis home in October 1993 when she was 9 years old.
Linda Dubiel was a dispatcher in 1993 and serves as Custer County jail administrator. She's been working the case in her spare time.
While going though files, she recently found a lead that hadn't been looked at before.
Sheriff Stu Lumpkin notified the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which led the search team. It called in the cadaver dog from Reno, Nev., Idaho State Police and Boise State University professor and students to search a certain area near Challis.
Saturday and Sunday’s search turned up nothing.
Lumpkin is keeping details about the lead and area searched under wraps.
“The Custer County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind everyone that … the case is still active,” the office said in a news release.
If you have information on the case, call (208) 879-2232.
