Custer County Searches For Girl Missing Since 1993 ByCHALLIS, Idaho -- Custer County authorities searched a backcountry area near Challis over the weekend as part of the investigation into the disappearance of Stephanie Crane. Stephanie was believed to have been abducted near her Challis home in October 1993 when she was 9 years old. Linda Dubiel was a dispatcher in 1993 and serves as Custer County jail administrator. She's been working the case in her spare time. While going though files, she recently found a lead that hadn't been looked at before. Sheriff Stu Lumpkin notified the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which led the search team. It called in the cadaver dog from Reno, Nev., Idaho State Police and Boise State University professor and students to search a certain area near Challis. Saturday and Sunday’s search turned up nothing. Lumpkin is keeping details about the lead and area searched under wraps. “The Custer County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind everyone that … the case is still active,” the office said in a news release. If you have information on the case, call (208) 879-2232. PrintEmail http://www.localnews8.com/news/31022306/detail.html |
