Location last seen ( city, town, county) Petal, Mississippi

Circumstances: Freeman was last seen in the parking lot of the Pizza Hut restaurant in her hometown of Petal, Mississippi at approximately 1:00 a.m. on September 10, 1993. She was speaking with her former boyfriend at the time. Freeman's silver 1984 Honda Accord hatchback was discovered abandoned at the Old Mahned Bridge over the Leaf River in Perry County, Mississippi at approximately 6:40 a.m. that morning. A photograph of the Honda is posted below this case summary. The vehicle's windows were rolled down and blood drops were located on the car and on the ground nearby; DNA testing proved that the blood belonged to Freeman. Her white Keds slip-on tennis shoes were found near the scene, but her purse and keys were missing.
Freeman is not believed to have run away from home. She made a car payment and a layaway purchase shortly before her disappearance and bought groceries. She also left behind a paycheck for over two hundred dollars. Freeman's parents suspect that a man who was seen at 2:00 a.m. the morning of her disappearance, washing his truck in Gulfport, Mississippi, was involved in his disappearance. He had been hunting near the Old Mahned bridge earlier. He has never been located or identified.

Freeman dropped out of high school in the ninth grade but was studying for her general equivalency diploma (GED) at the time of her disappearance; she wanted to become an X-ray technician or a nurse. She had moved out of her parents' home was living with a roommate at the time that she vanished, and working at the Krystal restaurant on Hardy Street in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Freeman's mother and stepfather stated that, although she was not close to them, she would not have left the area without telling them where she was going.

Foul play is suspected in Freeman's disappearance. Her family has criticized the police investigation into her case; authorities originally treated Freeman as a runaway in spite of the blood found near her car, although they are now investigating the case as a criminal matter. Her loved ones believe she was murdered and they think they know who killed her, but they have not publicly released the individual's name. Freeman's mother held a memorial service for her in 2002. Her case remains unsolved.

Vehicle last seen in if any: Silver 1984 Honda Accord hatchback was discovered abandoned at the Old Mahned Bridge over the Leaf River in Perry County, Mississippi

Work or Hobbies:

Are Dentals, DNA or Fingerprints available( specify)

Additional comments: Freeman was four months pregnant at the time of her September 1993 disappearance.

To My Killer...

I was born into this world as innocent as any child, but I was killed by a coward. My life did not deserve to be cut short. On Friday, September 10, 2004 I will have been missing for 11
years.

I am gone, but I am hardly forgotten. Every day volunteers, police officers, engineers, technicians, police lab officials, preachers, and laymen work to find me. I have an army of people working on my behalf. I will be found.

You think you got away with it, but you are sadly mistaken.
Thanks to advances in medical forensics, such as deep-seeking-ground-radar and extremely powerful advanced digital signal processors, technicians can now cover miles of ground where before people would have to search on foot for missing persons. I will be found, and when I do you could face execution at the hands of the law. Mississippi has the death penalty.

You not only killed me, but you killed my unborn child as well. Most people are not aware I was pregnant, but you are. This is what we were fighting about that night on the bridge. You are now possibly facing a charge of capital murder. If you turn yourself in, perhaps they will work with you. If my army finds me first (and they eventually will), then... the maximum penalty will be pushed for. I have many volunteers donating computer time to process the data that is collected on my behalf. Time is ticking for you. You once cared enough for me to make love to me. Care enough again to end the pain of my family as well as your own. Be a man, tell the world where my body is.

I do not think you intended to kill me. I was deeply in love with you. We were fighting, it got out of hand and you panicked. It could have happened to anyone, but it happened to us.

Police know about the blood on my hatchback; they know about fingerprints left on my report card and my hatchback. You were sloppy once you killed me! Thanks to the great work of new investigators, we know more today than we ever have; and they know more about you, than you think. It is amazing what a simple pair of white-slip-on tennis shoes can tell a PHD engineer at the FBI crime lab, especially the location where they were found and the dirt on them. We know why you took my keys and my purse. We know more every day.

Police know about the pool of blood on the ground where I lay dying while you tried to figure out what to do with me.

It has taken time to get all the evidence in place, but minute by minute, day by day, more evidence is being cataloged. Soon, the handcuffs will be coming for you! It would be better, if you turned yourself in and ended this nightmare for all of us.

At one time, you were a decent caring man, but a sinner in God's eyes. You killed two of his children. God says "You need to make peace with me by asking my forgiveness so you can enter heaven." God is asking you to make peace with Him and in turn you can have peace in regards to me and our child. Right now, you are doomed to h**l. Make peace with me and let the world know where I am. Police know your name...

Freeman's mother avoids prison time...

Woman avoids prison time
From staff reports

A Petal woman charged with attempting to poison her husband will not serve
any prison time.

Debra Lynn Stewart, 48, received a suspended 10-year sentence on Sept. 26
after pleading guilty in Forrest County Circuit Court to a charge of
attempting to poison with intent to kill where death does not ensue.

According to the sentencing order prepared by Circuit Judge Bob Helfrich,
the sentence was suspended because of good behavior. One of the conditions
of the suspended sentence is that Stewart stay at least 200 yards away from
her husband, Bill Stewart Jr., and not try to contact him.

Forrest/Perry County District Attorney Jon Mark Weathers said the sentence
was recommended at the request of Stewart's husband.

Stewart was arrested by Petal Police in February after an investigation into
allegations that she was trying to poison her husband by putting d-Con rat
poison in his medication.

Investigators found no apparent link to the 1993 disappearance of Stewart's
17-year-old daughter, Angela Freeman.

To help

If you have information about the 1993 disappearance of Angela Freeman, call University of Southern Mississippi police Capt. Rusty Keyes at 266-4986.

More

PETAL — Nicholas Freeman prays that advertising will make the public aware of a mystery that has plagued his family for 18 years.

The 32-year-old Petal resident's big sister disappeared in 1993. Angela Freeman was 17 the last time she saw her family, and was pregnant with a daughter when she vanished.

A billboard on Mississippi 42 near Petal High School went up Oct. 3 displaying her photo. It urges the public to call authorities with information on Angela Freeman's disappearance and offers a $10,000 reward. The billboard will remain there for six months.

The family also has a garage sale, bake sale and drawing planned for Friday and Saturday to raise money to help pay for the billboard. They hope proceeds from the events will help increase the reward and fund another billboard on U.S. 98 in Hattiesburg.

Clothing, toys, appliances, furniture, mattresses, cookware and other miscellaneous items will available at the garage sale set for 8 a.m.-5 p.m. both days at Angela's grandmother's house at 6751 Old Mississippi 42.

"Angela's been missing 18 years," Nicholas Freeman said. "We decided it's time to bring back awareness and hopefully closure to the case."

The Petal Police Department, the Perry County Sheriff's Office and the Forrest-Perry County District Attorney's office are still working on the case, along with University of Southern Mississippi Police Detective Rusty Keyes.

Keyes is the director of the college's cold case unit, which works on old cases and serves an educational purpose for criminal justice students. Keyes said he is the lead investigator in the Angela Freeman case.

She was last seen visiting someone at Petal's Pizza Hut the night of Sept. 10, 1993. Keyes said her Honda was found the next day with traces of blood on it near the Mahned bridge in Perry County.

"We do consider this case a homicide," Keyes said.

Nicholas Freeman just wants some closure.

"Not knowing is probably the toughest thing," he said. "You can't rest. It's like watching a movie and not seeing the ending."

Comments

The reward offered by a local family for information producing an arrest in a 1993 disappearance has been raised to $11,000.

Nicholas Freeman said recent fundraisers have paid for a billboard in Petal asking for information about his missing sister, Angela.

He said donations and a recent garage sale paid for the billboard and brought more cash into the reward fund. He thanked all those who supported the Freeman family in its recent fundraising efforts.

Anyone who knows anything about the disappearance is asked to call Detective Rusty Keyes at 266-4986.

Authorities Continue Investigating 20-Year-Old Cold Case
Posted: Sep 10, 2013 6:54 PM CDT Updated: Sep 10, 2013 9:35 PM CDT

By Donesha Aldridge, Digital Journalist - bio | email

September 10, 1993, 17-year-old Angela Freeman went missing from Petal. Her family and friends say this day never gets easy even 20 years later.

"We just need some closure, we'd love to know who did it and why they did it," said her grandmother, Clydell Freeman.

She said her granddaughter was a sweet person.

"She wanted to take care of her self and do her own little thing," she said.

Clydell Freeman said she was living in Louisiana when she received the news about Angela.

"We got the call and we came up," she said.

Local authorities said Angela was last seen at a Pizza Hut in Petal.

"We do know that she met someone that evening," said Southern Miss Cold Case Investigator Rusty Keyes. He's now handling the investigation. Her car was found on the Mahned Bridge in Perry County along with traces of blood.

"They searched the woods, the only thing they found was her shoes," Clydell Stewart said. "They found her keys, they never found her purse, we've never found her body."

Keyes said even though this is a cold case, it's still active. He said they are treating it as a homicide.

"We've got it narrowed down to what Angela did the last few minutes of her life," said Keyes. "We are working on some very good leads that we hope comes to a resolution."

Police said Angela was also a few months pregnant. The Freeman family said they would like to give her a proper burial.

"It don't get any easier," Clydell Freeman said. "We have to try to go on."

Police are still searching for leads. Contact the Petal Police Department at 601-544-5331 or the Perry County Sheriff's Office at 601-964-8461. Tips can also be sent to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at 1-800-843-5678 (1-800-THE-LOST).

Today makes 20 years that a Petal family has spent without seeing their teenage daughter and sister.

Angela Freeman, then 17 and pregnant with a daughter, was last seen at Petal’s Pizza Hut on Sept. 10, 1993.

“After 20 years, we still don’t know, and it’s kind of hard,” said Clydell Freeman, Angela’s grandmother.

The Hattiesburg resident said time doesn’t make her granddaughter’s disappearance any easier.

“It’s the same old thing you think about all the time — hoping and praying somebody will come forward,” she said.

The Perry County Sheriff’s and the Forrest-Perry County District Attorney’s offices are still working on the case, along with University of Southern Mississippi Police Detective Rusty Keyes.

Keyes is the director of the college’s cold case unit, which works on old cases and serves an educational purpose for criminal justice students. Keyes said he is the lead investigator in the Angela Freeman case.

Keyes said her Honda was found the day after the last time she was seen in Petal with traces of blood on it near the Mahned bridge in Perry County.

“It is a homicide case — no doubt there,” Keyes said.

But he said the trail leading to Angela and her unborn child’s fate hasn’t yet gone entirely dry.

“It is a very active case,” Keyes said. “It is a cold case, but it is an active case.”

He said progress is still being made in the search for Angela Freeman.

“We have been able to narrow that case down to a particular avenue right now that we’re very content with,” Keyes said, adding that he could not release the specifics.

Clydell Freeman said the family won’t give up hope.

“We’re not going to give up,” she said. “Every time we get a chance, we’re going to put it out there — we’re not going to forget her and we hope nobody else will.”

http://www.wdam.com/story/23392526/cold-ca...-pine-belt-teen

LAMAR COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -
The investigation for a Pine Belt teenager is still active 20 years after her disappearance.

Angela Freeman went missing on September 10, 1993. She was last seen at the Pizza Hut in Petal, and her car was later found near the Mahned Bridge in Perry County.

"It's been a long journey," says Angela's mother Deborah Freeman. "We still miss her. Like yesterday, you know, but it's been 20 years."

One of the investigating officers in this cold case is Captain Rusty Keyes with the University of Southern Mississippi Police Department.

"This is a very active case," says Keyes. "We know what Angela's activities were that night, and we're pretty confident on where we are in the case as far as the suspect as well."

Even with the developments of the case, Angela's family says that 20 years is too long to not know more.

"I wish that if anybody knows anything that they would come forth, and let's get this solved," says Deborah Freeman. "Any little detail that they might think of, it may help us."

The family says there is a $12,000 reward set for anyone who can help in solving this case.

Missing teen Freeman remembered on anniversary of her disappearance
Sunday, September 10th 2017, 6:00 pm EDT
Sunday, September 10th 2017, 6:00 pm EDT
By Charles Herrington, Reporter

PETAL, MS (WDAM) - Family and friends of a Petal girl who's been missing for 24 years gathered with local law enforcement Sunday afternoon to mark the anniversary of her disappearance.

About two dozen people met at the old Pizza Hut location in Petal and released balloons to remember Angela Freeman.

She was 17 when she disappeared on September 10, 1993.

She was an employee of the restaurant and was last seen there picking up her paycheck.

Her car was later found abandoned near the old Mahned Bridge in Perry County.

"It's hard, I just need to know about my child," said Debra Freeman, Angela's mother. "She needs justice and that's what we're here for she needs justice."

"With cold cases such as Angela's, you need momentum and we did get some momentum about a year ago and we hope that leads us to a conclusion on this case," said Rusty Keyes, assistant chief of the University of Southern Mississippi Police Department and head of the university's cold case unit.

If you can help solve Angela's disappearance, call Metro Crimestoppers at (601) 582-STOP.
