http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/w/walker_richard.html Richard Walker Above Images: Walker, circa 1993 Vital Statistics at Time of Disappearance Missing Since: June 19, 1993 from Naples, Florida Classification: Endangered Missing Date Of Birth: February 28, 1960 Age: 33 years old Height and Weight: 5'10, 175 pounds Distinguishing Characteristics: Caucasian male. Black hair, green eyes. Walker may have a moustache. He has a tattoo on his left shoulder of the name "Ricky" with the "c" slightly tilted. The tattoo is in blue ink and was not done professionally. Walker's nickname is Ricky and some agencies refer to him by that name or by the name Ricky Richard Walker. His ribs were previously fractured, one of his pinky fingers was cut off and sewn back on, and he has scars on his back from being beaten with a chain. Walker is missing all of his front teeth. He may have RH-negative blood. Walker smoked cigarettes at the time of his 1993 disappearance. Clothing/Jewelry Description: A dark-colored cap similar to a baseball cap, a t-shirt which was possibly dark blue and was either plain or had the word "hobi" printed on it, size 34x32 blue jeans of an unknown but probably inexpensive brand, Fruit of the Loom underwear, size 9 white tennis shoes and possibly a chain necklace. Medical Conditions: Walker suffered from Bright's Disease, a kidney disorder, in childhood. Details of Disappearance Walker and his father were constructing a house off of Randall Boulevard in Naples, Florida in June 1993. His family members invited him to a barbecue during the evening hours of June 19, but Walker said that he had plans with his friends John and Don Stacy. He planned to meet them near their mobile home in the West Winds Trailer Park along eastbound US Highway 41 in Naples. Don told authorities that Walker became intoxicated during his visit. Don drove Walker's light gray/blue 1977 or 1979 Oldsmobile Cutlass with Dixie County, Florida license plates numbered LTK-28Q back to the trailer. The vehicle has a spare tire in the trunk and the names "Ricky" and "Kelly" are scratched into the passenger door or the dashboard. Part of its Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is 3R47H9M546570; the last three characters of the VIN are not known. Walker passed out inside the vehicle by the time they arrived at the Stacys' mobile home. Don placed Walker's car keys underneath the front seat and exited the vehicle. Walker apparently entered the Stacys' trailer at approximately 11:30 p.m. and fell asleep on the couch. He has never been heard from again. Don and John told investigators that Walker disappeared by the time they awoke the following morning. A rifle was laying on the back seat of his vehicle at the time of his disappearance. It is described as a 1989 Marlin 330 (30/30), 336CS, with the serial number 12087456, a cross groove barrel, a mounted scope, and camouflage carrying case. It was purchased at Wal-Mart. Walker's car and weapon have never been recovered. His vehicle was in poor condition in June 1993. Walker's brother reported him as a missing person on June 21. Authorities interviewed the Stacys and learned that Walker did not have any disagreements with anyone prior to his disappearance. John and Don were not considered suspects in his case. An extensive search of the Golden Gares Estates area around Naples provided no clues as to Walker's whereabouts. Speculation surfaced that he was killed during a drug deal or murdered after attempting to sell his rifle for $200. None of the theories have been proven. Walker's brother works in law enforcement and received a tip that Walker's body was buried behind the Super D convenience store near the West Winds Trailer Park in the mid-1990s. A nearby canal was drained shortly afterwards, but only a dog's carcass was uncovered. Walker dropped out of Lely High School in the ninth grade. His father taught him to read after realizing his son was illiterate. Walker was employed as a painter and carpenter in 1993. He was awarded custody of his two sons and enjoyed a close relationship with his children. Walker does not have a reputation as a troublemaker, but his loved ones said that he would never shy away from a fight if he was provoked. He was considered a social drinker at the time of his disappearance, and had two prior marijuana-related arrests. Walker enjoys hunting and fishing. His family members said it is uncharacteristic of him to leave without warning. Walker may have been carrying a limited edition Remington pocketknife, a blue and red fold-over vinyl wallet containing pictures of his family members including his children, his driver's license and Social Security card, a disposable cigarette lighter and some Winston cigarettes, a roach clip with leather and pink feathers, and possibly scraps of paper with phone numbers written on them. He is believed to have been carrying less than $50 in cash with him, if he had any money at all. Foul play is suspected in Walker's case, which remains unsolved. http://www.naplesnews.com/news/2011/mar/31...3-collier-case/ Collier sheriff seeks leads in man’s mysterious 1993 disappearance By KELLY FARRELL Naples Daily News Posted March 31, 2011 at 7:15 p.m. GOLDEN GATE ESTATES — Rickey Walker had a few drinks with friends on a Saturday night before he and his car went missing in the summer of 1993 in East Naples. Since his home was in Golden Gate Estates, one might think Walker, 33 at the time, might have driven off into one of the many canals lining the roadways on the possible routes from his friend’s trailer in West Winds Estates to his home on 10th Avenue N.E. That was almost 18 years ago.. However, that’s not the case with Walker, said Maria Butrico, an investigator with the Collier County Sheriff’s Office’s Major Crimes Bureau. “It was a theory. We checked all the canals right away ... and several times since,” Butrico said. There were four vehicles pulled from canals along the way since 1993, she said, but his wasn’t one of them. In an effort to develop new leads, the Sheriff’s Office is featuring the case as part of an ongoing push to generate renewed attention to some of its cold cases. Walker was last believed to be sleeping on the couch in his friend’s trailer in West Winds after getting a ride in his own car from friend Don Stacy because Walker had too much to drink that night, Stacy told police. Walker passed out in the car, a 1978 Oldsmobile Cutlass, so Stacy left him there and went into brother John Stacy’s trailer to sleep. It’s believed that Walker came in later and went to sleep on the couch at about 11:30 p.m. on June 19, 1993. However, he and his car weren’t there when the Stacys woke up the next morning on June 20. They haven’t seen Walker since. He didn’t have any known disagreements with anyone that night. “It’s as if he just vanished off the earth,” Butrico said. Walker, who dropped out of Lely High School in 9th grade, is described as having black hair, green eyes, 5 feet 10 inches, 175 pounds with an unprofessional blue-ink tattoo on his left shoulder “Rickey” with the “c” slightly tilted. Previous injuries included fractured ribs, a pinky finger cut off and sewn back on his hand and being beaten with a chain leading to scars on his back. He was missing all front teeth and smoked Winston cigarettes, officials report. He had two prior arrests for marijuana-related crimes. He was wearing a dark-colored baseball cap, blue T-shirt, size 34 waist -- 32 length inexpensive blue jeans, and size 9 white shoes. His car, which hasn’t been found, was in poor condition in 1993. It had his children’s names, Kelly and Rickey, scratched into the door or dashboard. There was a 1989 Marlin 330, 336 CS rifle with a cross-groove barrel, a mounted scope and a camouflage carrying case on the back seat. The vehicle hasn’t been found. Investigators are thinking it may be a long-term Florida resident who gives a tip that offers a new lead. “Anyone who had seen that car ... it was pretty distinguished,” Butrico said. Foul play is suspected in his disappearance, officials said. Walker’s brother works in law enforcement and a tip that Walker’s body was buried behind the Super D convenience store near the trailer park didn’t pan out as the canal was drained and only a dog’s carcass was uncovered. Other theories of a drug deal or gun sale gone wrong haven’t panned out either, officials said. It was Walker’s family that reported him missing that weekend because it was uncharacteristic for him not to return home. He was close with his two children. They both now live in Dixie County, the North Florida county where Walker’s car was registered, according to the cold case report released by the Collier Sheriff’s Office this week. “My father never left me and my brother,” Kelly Mathia, Walker’s daughter, told investigators. “It wasn’t like him to do anything like that.” Mathia, now 32, was 14 and her brother, Rickey Lee, was 13 when their dad disappeared. Mathia recently told investigators about a difficult conversation she had with her own daughter at age 7. “She asked me ‘Mommy, where’s daddy?’ and I said, ’Well honey, he’s at work.’ Then she asked me, ‘Mommy, where’s your daddy?’ ” Mathia paused, her voice choked with emotion. “And well it’s just hard to talk about that.” * * * * * Have information? Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Collier County Sheriff’s Office at (239) 793-9300, or call Crime Stoppers at (800) 780-TIPS (8477) to remain anonymous. ![]()
