http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/a/adam_kathryn.html Kathryn Adam Above: Adam, circa 1993 Vital Statistics at Time of Disappearance Missing Since: April 29, 1993 from Salina, Kansas Classification: Endangered Missing Date Of Birth: February 6, 1958 Age: 33 years old Height and Weight: 5'4, 120 pounds Distinguishing Characteristics: Brown hair, brown eyes. Adam wears eyeglasses. Clothing/Jewelry Description: A light-colored shirt, dark-colored slacks, and a blue and white Kansas City Royals jacket. Details of Disappearance Adam was last seen at 4:30 p.m. on April 29, 1993, at the Kwik Trip in the 1700 block of west Crawford Street in Salina, Kansas. She was driving a white full-sized Ford van at the time; the vehicle has "She Has Legg's" written on the sides in blue lettering. The van was discovered abandoned at 5:45 p.m. the day after Adam's disappearance, at Russel's Restaurant in the 600 block of West Point Boulevard. The restaurant was closed for remodeling at the time. The van was spattered with mud on the outside and bloodsoaked on the inside. A large amount of blood was also found at a storage unit in west Salina where Adam, a saleswoman for the Legg's hosiery company, picked up stock each day, but there was no sign of her at either place. She has never been heard from again. Authorities speculate that Adam was attacked when she went inside the storage unit. The door of the unit had been opened and it appeared that she had been interrupted in the process of loading the merchandise in her van. Adam was separated from her husband at the time of her disappearance and had a teenaged daughter. Her case remains unsolved and foul play is suspected. KSN In Depth: The disappearance of Kathryn Adam by Jason Kravarik KSN News2005-11-18 SALINA, Kansas, Nov 18, 2005 -- A wet Salina morning in 1993 turned cold -- as in a cold case of murder. A killer was never caught and a body was never found. The cold case files are overflowing file cabinets and post-it notes with that one crucial phone number -- small details on the desk of a cold case detective serving as reminders that a killer has yet to pay, like the one who murdered Kathryn Adam. Kathryn Adam, 35, was last seen alive in 1993. Her name is now a tab in the cold case files. "Whoever did something to her is still out there," said Special Agent Ron Hagen, Kansas Bureau of Investigation. The case is puzzling since Kathryn’s body was never found -- just her van, blood and a hint of murder. "You don’t have people just up and vanish," said Hagen. Hagen has worked the case for 12 years. It was April 30th, 1993 when a phone call started it all. "Her 16-year-old daughter called us up and said ’I haven’t seen mom for two days,’" said Siemsen. That sent Lt. Scott Siemsen of the Salina Police Department on a search for Adam. The search took him to a storage facility near I-135. That is where Adam kept women’s hosiery she delivered to area stores. Once inside, investigators found blood, bullet fragments and signs that someone tried to clean it up. "Well, we’re thinking the worst case scenario would be a homicide, at least someone is injured. We believed at that point that someone -- whether it was Kathryn or not -- someone had been shot," said Siemsen. It was a suspicion that seems like fact when Kathryn’s delivery van turned up at Ruseell’s restaurant, abandoned in the parking lot -- the van’s interior spattered with blood. "We believe that the amount of blood that was in the van could potentially be fatal," said Siemsen. "We tested that, that is to hers, so you know she was transported in her van -- in the back, not in front," said Hagen. Detectives scoured the area with the urgency that a killer was likely among them. A surveillance photo of Kathryn turned up at a local convenience store. Police believe Adam was followed from there then murdered at the storage unit. "Loaded her in the truck -- in the L’Eggs van -- took her somewhere and then drove the van back to Russell’s Restaurant," said Hagen. With no body and few clues, investigators dug deeper into the life of Kathryn Adam. What they found was a muddy personal history; one they hoped would leave a messy trail straight to a killer’s door. "Sex, drugs and rock and roll," said Hagen. Hagen found a hamper full of dirty laundry -- affairs, ex-husbands and drugs -- all creating a list of suspects, but none leading to murder. Adding to the frustration were floodwaters. If Kathryn’s body was dumped, it could by now, be anywhere. The surveillance photo became crucial. "If she’s dead she’s not going to be in the best of shape, but the clothes will outlast the body. That’s sad to say, but true," said Hagen. That, however, is not what turns Hagen’s stomach. Instead, it is time. Days become weeks, months become years. All the while there is no body, no suspect and no talk. "A lot of times people will tell about things they’ve done, will confide in someone. We’re needing that person to come forward," said Siemsen. Until that happens, Ron Hagen fears this case will stay in the cold file, as will his duty to a victim and the public. "If somebody did kill her, this guy’s still out there. This lady’s still out there. If they killed once they’ll kill again and I think we have to prevent that." If you know anything about this case, call the KBI at 1-800-KS-CRIME or the Salina Police Department. Last update: Nov 18, 2005, 9:14am See more stories by Jason Kravarik |

Kathryn Adam Kathryn was last seen on April 29, 1993 at 4:30 AM at a Kwik Trip in Salina, Kansas. The Kwik Trip is located at 1727 W. Crawford, and a surveillance photo took the last known picture of Kathryn. Her L'eggs Hosiery delivery van was missing, and blood was found outside a storage unit she used. Plice found the van, its exterior was splattered with mud, and the interior soaked with blood, parked in a parking lot of Russell's Restaurant at 649 Westport. The restaurant was closed at the time for repairs. Kathryn was separated from her husband and living in Salina with her daughter. Police speculate Kathryn was attacked when she went to the storage unit after filling the van up with gas. There was a large pool of blood found outside the storage building and a small amount of blood found inside. The door to the unit was open, and it appeared Kathryn had been loading the van with merchandise when she was attacked. She was last seen wearing a light colored shirt, dark slacks, and a blue and white Kansas City Royals jacket. She was a route salesperson for L'egg's.
