Brown hair, brown eyes. Zoltowski has a birthmark on his outer right anklebone, about the size of a nickel or quarter. He has a slight scar under his left eye. Zoltowksi may have a moustache, beard or a goatee. He is left-handed. Zoltowski's nickname is Jeff. He has previously fractured his left ankle and left hand. Clothing/Jewelry Description: White shorts and a purple tie-dyed t-shirt. Details of Disappearance Zoltowski was last seen hiking in the Wailua Valley on the island of Molokai in Hawaii on March 31, 1993. He flagged down a helicopter from the Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) that day, but the pilot refused to fly Zoltowski out of the area. The ranger did bring Zoltowski's backpack to the DLNR's service yard on Molokai. Zoltowski never claimed his possessions and has never been seen again. His backpack remained in the yard for forty-one days before Zoltowski was reported as a missing person. Zoltowski may have been sighted near a homeless shelter in the vicinity of Nimitz Highway and Sumner Street in Honolulu, Hawaii, near K-Mart, on July 28, 2001, eight years after his disappearance. A woman reported that the man who resembled Zoltowski called himself Sam or Samuel and panhandled for money from vehicles stopped in traffic. He had heavy facial scarring, he limped, and his speech was slurred, indications that he may have suffered a severe head injury in the past. It has not been confirmed that the individual was in fact Zoltowski. Investigators have looked for the unidentified man but have not located him. The area where he was seen is near a homeless shelter run by the Insitute for Human Services, but no one at the shelter recognized Zoltowski's picture. Zoltowski was a student at Wayne State University in Michigan at the time of his disappearance. His case remains unsolved. ![]() Disappeared in Hawaii Jeffrey John ZOLTOWSKI disappeared March 31, 1993 while hiking in the Wailua Valley on Molokai. He flagged down a Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) helicopter which carried his backpack out and left it at the DLNR service yard. A missing person case was initiated a month and a half later. The family hired private investigators to look for information about Jeffrey's disappearance and created a website for Jeffrey on the internet. A nationwide talk show featured the ZOLTOWSKI case in 2002. After watching the story, a woman on Oahu reported to the family that she believed that she had contact with a man who called himself "Sam" near IHS, and panhandled for money from vehicles stopped in traffic. She described what appeared to be heavy scarring on the forehead that may relate to a head injury. Based on this new information, detectives in Farmington, Michigan created two "aged" composites, one with facial hair and the other clean shaven. Jeffrey was 23 at the time of his disappearance. He would be in his middle thirties now. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Missing Person(s) Information Missing Person Status: Unsolved Missing Person Name: Jeffrey John ZOLTOWSKI AKA: Ethnicity: Caucasian Gender: Male Age: Height: 6' Weight:160 Build: Medium Hair Description: Dark Brown Eye Color: Brown Markings / Attire: Scar under left eye; Birthmark on the outside of his right anke Frequents: Possible last sighting near IHS on Nimitz Highway http://www.crimestoppers-honolulu.org/view...seType=Unsolved |

HONOLULU -- Honolulu police have renewed a search for a man who has been missing for eight years. Jeff Zoltowski (pictured, right) disappeared in 1993 after hiking into Wailau Valley on Molokai. He was 23 years old at the time. Recently, a Honolulu woman who saw Zoltowski's case featured on a nationwide talk show told police that she has seen him several times panhandling in Iwilei. Odetta Stevens said that she is certain Zoltowski is the man who asked her for money near the Kmart on Nimitz Highway. She said that he identified himself as Sam or Samuel. "When the drivers pull up to park, he will go up to the driver of the vehicle and ask them for money," Stevens told KITV4 News police reporter Mary Zanakis. Video Watch Mary Zanakis' Report She also said that he appeared to have a severe head injury. "You can see the scarring on his forehead ... also his speech is slurred and he limps." Zoltowski would be 31 today. He has a birthmark about the size of a quarter on his right ankle and he has a scar under his left eye. Steven said that she noticed the scar under the eye. Because Kmart is across the street from the Insitute for Human Services homeless shelter, Honolulu police Wednesday asked people who are staying there is they seen of recognized Zoltowski. At least one person said that he may have been seen there, though nobody recognized his picture. Anyone who believes that they have seen Zoltowski is asked to call 911 or Honolulu police missing persons detective Joe Self at 529-3064. http://www.thehawaiichannel.com/news/848396/detail.html |
