http://www.kristv.com/Global/story.asp?S=1...4&nav=menu192_2 Investigator Still Searching For Missing Woman Updated: May 25, 2009 11:21 PM EDT Investigator Still Searching For Missing Woman ARANSAS PASS - Memorial Day is also National Missing Children's Day and one of the most high profile cases in the Coastal Bend is that of 13-year-old Elisa Roberson of Aransas Pass. This year marks the 20th anniversary of her disappearance and investigators said there are new leads in the case. Roberson was a happy 13-year-old when she disappeared back in 1989. She left her Aransas Pass home to go to a friend's house, but never made it. "She virtually just vanished," Mike Kelley, a consultant for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, said. He's been working on Roberson's case over the past several years, and said new information received within the last year has placed the young teen back into the spotlight. Cadaver dogs recently gave investigators some new leads that involve what he said is a person of interest. He couldn't elaborate, but said it could be the break they've been waiting for. "It's a long shot, the dogs are pretty good, but her remains, that would be 20 years ago, so we're hoping that might pan out," Kelley said. As he works to solve the mystery, there's still hope that someone will come forward with information. Too much time may have passed though to rely on forensics to generate new leads. It's up to the public to speak up and help solve Roberson's disappearance. "What I try and do every year is get publicity on the Roberson case because it brings it out into the media attention and the community gets to look at it again, and you know, someone might get motivated to bring in some information," Kelley said. In the meantime, the family plans a memorial service for this August, marking the 20th anniversary of Roberson's disappearance. However, as long as her case remains a mystery, Kelley said they will never get the closure they deserve, which is why he'll stay on the trail that is finally beginning to heat up. "There's nothing more tragic than losing a child and they have to live with that every single day. So, I think we owe to those people to do everything we can," Kelley said. ARANSAS PASS - The longest running cold case in the Coastal Bend has taken an interesting turn. 27 years after an Aransas Pass girl went missing, a private search team is investigating the home she lived in. Back in August, 1989, a then 13 year old Elisa Roberson inexplicably vanished on the way from her home to a nearby elementary school. Now, that private search group, Texas Equusearch, is looking under the home she lived in for her remains. Apparently, this was at the request of law enforcement and the current homeowners. The Equusearch team has been digging under the property with shovels and saws to cut through concrete. The group has cracked a number of cold cases nationwide. It's unclear if any leads are actually pointing to the house. We haven't been privy to any investigation details. We do know this is the first step of any Texas Equusearch investigation. "Well, I mean this is where Elisa was last seen. This was her house.... You know, when there's a missing person, you always start out (at) the last place they were seen and spread out from there," Founder Tim Miller says. Roberson's family hasn't lived in the house for years. Some of the current tenants have been temporarily moved to a motel. We're told the current homeowners wants to make sure nothing is under their house. On that note, Texas Equusearch says they'll stay as long as they have to. |
