UNIDENTIFIED WOMAN TO BE BURIED

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Tuscaloosa County officials planned a funeral today for a woman who was found beaten and strangled in the Black Warrior River last Spring, even though investigators still don't know who she is.
Tuscaloosa County Sheriff Beason Walker said the burial of the body known to investigators only as "Jane Doe," is no indication that the investigation is halting.
He said the body, which had been preserved for investigative purposes, was too badly decomposed to be of use in identifying it.
"Of course, even with the burial of the body, the case will not be closed. We will continue to follow up leads and try to identify the body," Walker said Wednesday.
The woman's age was estimated at 34 to 38, and investigators believed the body had been in the river two to four days before it was found near the Fosters community of Tuscaloosa County.
Efforts to identify the woman included sending a description to law enforcement officials across the nation and checking fingerprints against Federal Bureau of Investigation files.
Judge E.H. Hawkins signed the petition Tuesday allowing the body to be buried.
The funeral was scheduled this afternoon at Sunset Memorial Park. Earl Mitchell, funeral director, said a local Baptist minister would conduct a memorial service.
The county and funeral home would share the cost of the burial, Mitchell said. It was not known how the grave would be marked.

The world is a dangerous place to live, not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it.

U-172296346 -There were no described scars on her ankle. She did not have pierced ears. She had only a partial upper plate on the right central location; no lower dental plate.
