http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow/1665138.cms [ 21 Jun, 2006 0100hrs ISTTIMES NEWS NETWORK ] RSS Feeds| SMS NEWS to 8888 for latest updates MUMBAI: The body of an eight-year-old girl was found in a guesthouse in Parel on Tuesday. The police are on the lookout for a man in his mid-40s and woman in her mid-30s who had checked into the guesthouse along with the girl. The man had registered himself as Sanjay Kumar (45) at the check-in counter, but did not give the names of the woman and child. He said they had come from Tirupati in AP. Senior inspector Dinesh Kumar Verma of the Bhoiwada police said it was a clear case of murder. The murder came to light when Harish, the room in-charge at Vivekanand Guesthouse, tried opening the door of room 116 at around 10.15 am on Tuesday, but found the door locked from inside. He then used a duplicate key to enter the room, only to find the room stinking and the air-conditioner on. "Harish found the body of the girl under the bed. He then informed the guesthouse authorities, who called up the police,"Verma said. The police recovered a bag and a few tailored clothes, presumably of the girl, but without tags. Sources said the couple booked the room for one day at 8 a.m on Monday. They were seen leaving the room at 1.30 pm on the same day and never returned. The girl was suspected to have been killed on Monday afternoon. Investigators said it was negligence on the part of the guesthouse staff to not register the name of the woman or girl. "We suspect that the girl was poisoned and when she resisted, they pushed her head into a bucket of water until she died,"Verma said. He said hair was found in the room and the bathroom bucket. No injury marks were found on the girl's body. |

http://www.cybernoon.com/DisplayArticle.as...y_standard10008 Who were they? Why did they kill the child? BY A STAFF REPORTER | Wednesday, June 21, 2006 10:38:25 IST Couple checks in with 8-year-old girl at Dadar hotel and disappear; a day later, girl is found dead in the room Mystery continues to shroud the death of a girl child whose body was found in a lodge in Dadar. The girl was accompanied by a couple who had checked into the lodge and disappeared without a trace. According to staffers at the hotel, a couple who had come along with a girl aged seven or eight years, had checked into the lodge on Monday morning at around 8.30. The couple booked a room (number 116) and had registered in the name of Sanjay Kumar, aged 45. The Kumars, as the couple had identified themselves, claimed to be visiting Mumbai on a business trip. The couple had breakfast after checking in and later in the afternoon they left the hotel but did not return. The next morning, when the hotel’s housekeeping staff knocked at the door of the room there was no response. Smelling a rat, the housekeeping staffer informed his senior who opened the door with a duplicate key. It was then that they recovered the body of the girl under the bed. No sooner was the girl’s body spotted than the Bhoiwada police were alerted by the hotel authorities. A case has been filed against the two persons who had accompanied the girl and later went missing. Senior Police Inspector Dinesh Kumar Varma said, “We suspect that the girl was killed by dunking her face in a bucket of water or she could have been poisoned as strands of the girl’s hair were found in the bathroom. However, the exact reason can be ascertained only after the postmortem report is received. The girl’s body has been to KEM hospital. We have also taken the missing couple’s fingerprints from the hotel.” Police said they had recovered a bag from the room in which they found clothes. |
