-- Another Body Found in Desert

Deported immigrant helps Border Patrol find remains.

Fernando Martin Valadez-Alfrano, a 39-year-old illegal immigrant apprehended by local authorities and sent back to Mexico, told his family about a dead body he'd seen while crossing the desert southeast of Deming, and his family urged him to report it, the Deming Headlight reported today on its Web site.

Valadez-Alfrano told Mexican immigration officials about it, and he was brought back to the United States on Sunday to help U.S. Border Patrol officials find the body, the Headlight reported.

The body of a woman in her mid- to late 30s was located shortly after noon Sunday about nine miles north of Columbus, the paper reported.

"We suspect she was an illegal immigrant," Luna County Undersheriff Raymond Cobos told the Headlight.
Cobos said the death appeared to be recent, probably within the past 10 days.

"There was no indication that she fit the description of any missing person within that time frame in this jurisdiction," Cobos told the paper.

The Border Patrol's Search, Trauma and Rescue team determined that the unknown person's death was likely caused by heat-related conditions, the Headlight said.

The body, which was taken to the Office of the Medical Investigator in Albuquerque for an autopsy, was the sixth to be found this year in the desert, the paper reported.
