Back -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Article published Apr 28, 2006 Body found by road Discovery of dead woman launches second homicide investigation of year By D.E. Smoot Phoenix Staff Writer An unidentified woman was found dead Thursday morning in a ditch alongside a rural, southeastern Muskogee County road. The death is being investigated as a homicide, the second such investigation this year in Muskogee County. Authorities say a motorist discovered the woman’s body in a ditch at about 10:30 a.m. Thursday about a half mile west of Ross Road, two miles south of Interstate 40. The woman was barefoot. Her right hand gripped a bloody, blue paper towel — it looked like the kind used to wash car windows — across her lower abdomen. Another bloody towel was on the ground beside her. Muskogee County Sheriff Charles Pearson said the woman was dragged from a vehicle and left on the side of the road either late Wednesday or early Thursday. “We’re not sure what we have right now,” Pearson said. “There appears to have been a lot of vaginal bleeding, but there are no other visible signs of trauma.” Investigators found nothing that might help them identify the woman. Authorities said they will compare the woman’s fingerprints and a dental cast with those included in a national database in an effort to establish her identity. Sheriff’s Investigator Tim Brown said McIntosh and Sequoyah county authorities had been notified and were asked to search for clues at area rest areas and truck stops. “Somewhere around here there is a car with a lot of blood in it,” Brown said. This is the second homicide investigation in Muskogee County this year. The death of Mark Daniel Marlow also is being investigated as a homicide by the Muskogee Police Department. Marlow, 37, died March 13 while being restrained by several people during an altercation involving Marlow and his older sister, Kim Agilular. Medical examiners have yet to rule on the cause and manner of Marlow’s death. Reach D.E. Woman's Body Found In Ditch By Monica Keen, Staff Writer Investigators are searching for clues into the death of a woman, whose body was discovered Thursday morning in a ditch alongside a county road just outside of Webbers Falls. Webbers Falls Police Capt. Joseph Garrett said Thursday that the identity of the woman is unknown. Garrett said he first got the call at about 10:19 a.m. after a person who lived nearby was traveling down the road, looked over and saw a body in a ditch alongside the road. The body was found about a half-mile west of Ross Road. No identification was found on or around the woman's body, which was clothed in sweatpants and a shirt, but no shoes, Garrett said. He said the woman was bleeding vaginally and a paper towel was found in the front of the woman's pants. He said they are not sure if the woman had a miscarriage. "There's not a lot of information to go off of," Garrett said. "We're just in the early stages (of the investigation) right now." The Muskogee County Sheriff's Office was called to investigate the case. "We don't know who she is or where she came from," Chief Investigator Tim Brown with the Muskogee County Sheriff's Office said Thursday afternoon. "She doesn't appear to be local." Brown said the woman appears to be between the age of 25 and 35 and of possible Hispanic or Native American descent. He said there were no obvious signs of injuries on the body, but there was a lot of vaginal bleeding. When asked if it appeared the woman was sexually assaulted, Brown said he didn't think so because there were no signs of a struggle. The woman's clothing was intact and there was nothing under her fingernails. Brown said the case is currently being treated as a homicide. He said it appeared that the woman had been dead about 12 hours before she was discovered. "I think she was dead when she was dumped out there," Brown said. Brown said investigators can only speculate about how the woman died because they don't know the cause or manner of death. The woman's body has been sent to the medical examiner's office. Brown said he is also going to take fingerprints to try to identify her. He said the sheriff's office also sent an alert to local law enforcement agencies to check rest stops for blood or other potential evidence and to be on the lookout for vehicles with blood inside. Brown said the Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation has not been notified about the death. Anyone with any information about the case should contact Brown at (918) 687-0202. |

05-03-2006 Body Found In Muskogee County May Be That Of Missing Broken Arrow Woman MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) -- Authorities in Muskogee County are investigating the possibility that a body found last week may be that of a missing Broken Arrow woman. The body of the unidentified Hispanic woman was found in a roadside ditch in southeastern Muskogee County last Thursday. Sheriff's investigator Tim Brown says police are looking into reports from a Broken Arrow man who reported his wife missing last Thursday. Brown says the man told police on Friday his wife returned, but officers haven't talked with her. Brown says it appears the woman died of complications from a miscarriage but the medical examiner's office hasn't issued a ruling on the cause of death. http://www.kotv.com/main/home/stories.asp?...age=1&id=103616 08-20-2006 Funeral Services Held For Unidentified Woman Sunday August 20, 2006 4:37pm Tahlequah (AP) - About 50 mourners attended a funeral service for an unidentified woman whose body was found alongside a rural Muskogee County road in late April. During yesterday's service, there were no memories shared, and no one knew her name. Authorities believe the woman may have died as the result of a miscarriage. Muskogee County officials planned to have the body cremated this week, but Mary Carey of Muskogee says she couldn't live with that thought. After seeing the woman's photograph in the local newspaper, Carey said she and her husband adopted the woman and scheduled a funeral service at Reed-Culver Funeral Home. http://www.ktul.com/news/stories/0806/354228.html |

This is all I can find about this Jane Doe, but evidently she was just buried and never reported to the State. I think we need to add her to our 2006 unidentifed list. |
