I have made the following submittals…to LE directly not to a panel..your right Bossman it feels great to say that.. Based on new DNA testing that has revealed that 111UMCA and 131UFCA are not brother and sister or related. I have made the following submissions to LE. Connie Gail Minchaca and Sandra Butler for 131UFCA Scott Fandel for 111UMCA In the past missing persons may have been automatically ruled out based on the fact LE was looking for siblings and not individuals. The whole case file is being reviewed by LE. IMO if something as significant as thinking these two individuals were related was wrong who knows how many other details on the case file could be incorrect, i.e height, weight, estimation of age… Wow I love this website!

They are not related? When was this found out? Is this just recent information? The internet sites at NCMEC still say its possible they are brother and sister! I have been told that there have been multiple DNA tests done on these two children - wouldn't the possibility that they were not related have come up sooner? |

No I was never a member of the Doe Network. It has been my firm belief they are the Reinert children but I believe whoever was responsible for collecting the DNA samples (not testing the DNA samples) swapped them with DNA from another person(s) so they wouldn't be identified. Its a hinky case The reasons are outlined on this thread http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34302 I even went so far as to email Dateline NBC so I'm REALLY glad LE is taking another look at all of the information! |

Very interesting..it would explain why this case is so hard to solve...and also why a case involving two young children has been open for sooo long..

In my very last conversation the LE who is working on the case now said that he has sent for the entire case file to review everything. But although that might sound like yahooo keep in mind he this is an old case with old files on paper so I am sure it will take forever...but I do check in with him from time to time. I keep an open mind.. Wow I just looked at the link..I have to agree those children really look like these UID's... |

I can't wait to see how this develops. This new information changes the entire complexion of possibilities. |

Hey at least this "new" testing was done! If it proves to be accurate it opens up a number of avenues to search for individual kids. As mentioned on the Websleuths thread Jim Jones's cult wasn't too far away from where the children were found. As you said... not looking for a brother and sister, but instead looking for an individual child may break this case wide open! |

But if they're not brother and sister, they can't be the Reinerts. The distance I have a problem with as well. Anyone like this match? http://www.doenetwork.us/cases/802dfca.html Dentals are available. I don't know whether the missing has pierced ears though. I also think the Fandels were ruled out some time ago, although I have nothing to back it up with. |

The Reinert childrens case is different - and there are some twists that might suggest that "stuff" was going on behind the scenes. The convicted killer of the mother is free now because of technical impropriety on the part of the District Attorney. Also, there is a California connection in their story. Its all in the Websleuths link But you are right... if the unidentified children are not brother and sister then they can't be the Reinert children. Although in my mind it does bring up the question why was this only discovered in 2006? What lab did the test? Why hasn't this information been updated on the NCMEC site? I like your suggestion - looks like the unidentified girl. |

I had submitted this one: http://www.doenetwork.us/cases/1876dmca.html but at that time there was no height listed and now its 6'0. Guess it still would be possible since there was a time gap in between.. |

Anne your find looks so much like the reconstruction! As you said though the height is off as John Doe is estimated to be 5'5". Also John Doe is estimated to be 13 yrs old and Derran would have been 19 in 1978. Of course now that there is new info I'm wondering if they will be revising the age estimates and the estimated date of death? |

I thought of him too, but the height's off. He does look similar though. Does anyone know if dentals are available for the does? They may not have had the money to DNA test until recently. Those cost money. It could have been that they finally got the money. (My sister was convinced they were twins, but that's ruled out now.) |

The good news is that if your gut tells you yes about a match...then you can follow up on it.. sometimes we just need to go with our gut...that's what I love. No restrictions...yipee  |

I think money may well have been an issue in this case. Only in the last year or so has federal funding been available to do a lot of this testing. It is going to make a huge difference in lots of cases...already has, truth be told. |

To go with it I had submitted this girl.. 863DFCA http://www.doenetwork.us/cases/863dfca.html because her and Derran were missing from close proximity and time and look enough to be brother and sister. |

I got an update from my contact today: He writes.. Rebecca Noel---Shortly after we spoke, I obtained the case file for our John & Jane Doe found juveniles, but as of this date I have not had the chance to research anything. Sorry. Just to be blunt and truthful, my unit (all 5 of us) have been extremely busy lately working on recent homicide cases (four in November '05), as well as the rest of our normal caseload. I am not trying to make up excuses, but there are currently too many current (1 year or less) major cases in our unit to review the old cases. (We have had (2) attempted murders and one armed robbery within the last (3) days, just as an example). Believe me, I would like nothing more than to find the parents and/or responsibles for these children's death. I have (3) children of my own and know that these children need to have a voice and be heard. I will do my best. Please don't get discouraged and keep in touch with me. Keep up the work you've being doing. |
