Hundreds go online to help solve cold case
Joel Kom, CanWest News Service

CALGARY -- Todd Fraser has 232 people looking for him.

It's been almost two decades since the Calgary man seemed to disappear into thin air, vanishing from his Vancouver apartment without leaving any clues to his fate.

The trail soon went cold. The file remains open with the Vancouver Police Department, but officers stopped actively pursuing the case several years ago.

Font: ****His family still clings to hope and now, as have a growing number of families in similar situations, they have turned to Facebook, the popular social networking website that has become a daily online stop for millions of people.

Fraser's sister Kelly launched a Facebook group dedicated to finding her brother, attracting 232 members in less than two months and providing insight into what might have happened to Fraser.

There's the Toronto woman, for example, who saw the website and recalled recently meeting a man resembling Fraser who suffered from amnesia. And there are friends who say he wasn't addicted to drugs and didn't have any known enemies.

For Kelly, who believes her brother is alive and someone knows where he is, the website is an outlet for a family desperate for any piece of information.

"I don't know if it's going to be good news or bad news," she said Monday from her Calgary home. "I just want news."

Kelly Fraser's brother was 29 when he stood up a friend at a concert on Aug. 7, 1988 -- and he hasn't been heard from since. His belongings were left in his Vancouver apartment, where a sad poem addressed to "loved ones" was found lying in his room.

Much has changed for his family since his disappearance: his grandfather died, a half-sister was discovered and Kelly became a mother. Through it all, they've just wanted to hear from Fraser.

"They love him," said Kelly. "They just want him back."
