State police hope to identify body found floating off coast in 1990
by WGME Tuesday, October 24th 2017

PORTLAND (WGME) – State police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man’s body found floating off the Maine coast in 1990.

The body was found south of Schoodic Point and east of Baker Island. Officials have been trying to identify the man for 27 years.

Police say the man was 5’4”-5’5”, and between 40 and 50 years old. He was of a stocky build and had short, dark hair.

It is likely that the man had operations for a hernia repair, and he was missing his spleen, according to police. Officers have checked with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and the man is not a match for any missing person from Maine or the Canadian Maritimes.

The man was wearing a blue winter coat and a blue corduroy shirt from Canada, but his boots were made in Czechoslovakia,

The Medical Examiner’s office determined the man died in June or July of 1990.

If you have any information, please call (207) 624-7076.
