http://foxbaltimore.com/news/local/five-mo...ate-for-answers Five months later, family of missing pregnant mother desperate for answers by Alexa Ashwell Tuesday, October 10th 2017 BALTIMORE (WBFF) - The family of a missing pregnant woman hopes her newly discovered bank card will lead to more clues in her disappearance. Akia Eggleston, 23, of Baltimore was reported missing by her family May 7. The young mother was 8 months pregnant and on bed rest at the time. Family members said when Akia failed to show up for her baby shower that day, they went to her home on Cherrycrest Road in the Cherry Hill neighborhood of South Baltimore. Not only was the expecting mother not there, but neither were her belongings. The apartment had been emptied of her things. Police were called to investigate. In July BPD held a press conference to talk about the case. A spokesperson announced they suspected foul play yet admitted to having little leads in the case. Family said hospitals were also alerted but never reported treating a pregnant woman matching Akia’s description. “We’re obviously beyond the point where she would have given birth,” said T.J. Smith, a spokesperson with BPD back in July. Police wouldn’t comment Monday when asked about the family discovering Akia’s bank card behind some bushes in front of her home. Family and friends had gathered there for a prayer vigil Saturday. “Someone said they found something over here,” showed Akia’s father Shawn Wilkinson. “I went behind the bush. I flipped it over with my foot to see what it said. It was her bank card." Wilkinson said police responded to the home and seized the card. Now, Fox 45 is also learning about surveillance video BPD obtained and recently released. The pictures show Akia inside an area bank May 3rd, the last day anyone heard or talked with Akia, according to family. Family stresses Akia would have never left her 3-year-old daughter and was very excited about welcoming her son into the world. “She was very much in love with her daughter,” said Wilkinson. “She was very much in awe waiting for the new baby to come.” According to Wilkinson, police have talked with all family and friends of Akia, including both the father of her daughter and father of her unborn child. Wilkinson believes someone has some information on the case. The father is desperate for his daughter and the grandson they had been waiting for to come home. “The hope is someone will be touched. Their heart, their conscience,” said Wilkinson. “Just come forward with some type of information.” |
