The search for a 27-year-old Collier County man with special needs has suspended after two days of searching the swampy wooded areas near Oil Well Road.

Jaime Curtis is described as 6-foot-1 tall weighing in at 240 pounds with blonde hair and green eyes, according to the Collier County Sheriff's Office. He has Asperger's Syndrome and his family members are concerned for his safety.

They said he was last seen Friday night in a swampy area off Immokalee Road wearing black sweatpants, a blue shirt, gray shoes and carrying a camouflage backpack.

Deputies say Jaime was with his mother being driven from one family member's home to another when they pulled the car over. He jumped out and waded into chest-deep swamp waters and hasn't been seen since.

Operations continued Sunday morning with swamp buggies and ATVs due to the difficult terrain, deputies say. Dive teams searched several nearby waterways and found no evidence of Curtis.

"We had drivers out there today and they did a pretty extensive search of the area where he was last seen and expanded that search, and there was no evidence from any of the information that we have that would show that he was there," said Lt. J.J. Carroll of the Collier County Sheriff's Office.

The search was suspended as crews hadn't found any signs of the man after two days of searching through the thick woods and swamp land.

"We made the decision to suspend the search. We are going to keep a small contingent here until morning time and that's just in case we get any tips or spottings of him in the area," Lt. Carroll said.

Authorities from Greater Naples Fire Rescue, North Collier Fire Control and Rescue, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission have all joined in. They've spent all weekend checking the surrounding area high and low including where he jumped in and found nothing.

Helicopter pilots making rounds said they're searching for a needle in a haystack.

“It is a very wooded thick area with swampy area, and of course we’re not just in that area, we’re in a perimeter search within all the trails right from where this subject had entered the woods," the lieutenant said.

They say Curtis does have a backpack possibly with food in it.

"This is not just a closed case, this will stay open and the investigation will continue with our department from this point."

Deputies are trying to piece together what happened from what loved ones may know.

“As things develop, we have questions that we need answered, and our detectives are with the family right now and they ask the questions," he said.

Missing man leaves Curtis family devastated

Michael Curtis still can't believe Jamie, his younger brother, is missing in the swamp lands of rural Collier County.

"I'll probably go in there if they don't find him," he said. "I believe he is in there. I believe he is alive and I believe they are going to find him."

Michael says his brother was in a car with his mom and stepdad on Friday when he suddenly felt sick. When the family pulled over near Oil Well and Immokalee Roads, Jaime bolted into the nearby woods.

Since that moment, emergency rescuers from all across the county have been searching for Curtis.

"I do trust that they are doing everything they can, but that is the hardest place to navigate of Naples of Florida. The swamp is not easy to go through," Michael said.

Despite two days of searching with no sign of hope of his missing brother, Michael and the rest of the Curtis family are still clinging to hope that Jamie will return home safe.

SAVANNAH, Ga. -The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department said that human remains found Friday in a wooded area may be those of a Naples man missing since last year.

The man, described as suicidal, was reported missing in April 2016.

Naples deputies told Savannah police that soon after the man was reported missing, he could be in the area near Friday's discovery off I-95 in southwest Savannah. Naples investigators and Metro officers searched the area unsuccessfully.

Detectives are working with Naples deputies to make a positive identification.
