Police: Decomposed human remains found off I-20 are missing grandmother's Adrianne Haney, WXIA 5:44 PM. EDT August 17, 2017 DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- Police confirm the human remains discovered just off the surface of I-20 Wednesday night are of missing grandmother Millicent "Millie" Williams. According to the DeKalb County Police Department, the remains were discovered in an embankment along a stretch of I-20 westbound near the Flat Shoals Road exit. Authorities began to search the area after a tip from an unidentified source came in around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday night. A spokesperson with the DeKalb County Police Department said the remains, hidden in the wooded area next to the interstate outside the search area, were so badly-decomposed that they could not tell whether they were male or female. Officials anticipated it would take some time to identify the remains because of the state of decomposition. However, they were able to use dental records to determine they belonged to Millie. The site where the remains were found are located in roughly the same area where the DeKalb County grandmother went missing last month. Officials said the site where the remains were found were between five to seven miles from the 78-year-old's home. Right now, they believe Millie's body was taken to the location and left. Police arrested and charged Millie's grandson, Gregory Williams, in the woman's disappearance on July 27, after finding her Decatur home on Brookgreen Point covered in blood. Investigators had been searching for Millies' body since, searching in near-by parks, ponds and walking trails. MORE | Grandson of missing woman allegedly threatened to rape, kill her In a news conference the day after Millie's remains were discovered, DeKalb County Police spokeswoman Shiera Campbell said it is a relief to the Millie's family and to investigators to have some resolution in the case. "It definitely does bring closer to the family," Campbell said. "It was quite an extensive search for Ms. Williams and the family was out there, as well, looking for her. So to know that she has been recovered and they can lay her to rest peacefully, I'm sure it brings some sort of comfort to the family."http://www.11alive.com/news/local/police-d...thers/464954051 |
