http://www.lowellsun.com/breakingnews/ci_3...k#ixzz4oSekJG1A Lowell police seek help in identifying body found in Merrimack River By Aaron Curtis, acurtis@lowellsun.com UPDATED: 07/31/2017 05:57:50 PM EDT LOWELL -- Police are asking for the public's help in figuring out whose body was found in the Merrimack River on Sunday. Lowell police officers are asking for help figuring out who the deceased female is. The gruesome discovery was made by a kayaker who noticed the body in the water toward the south side of the river's bank underneath the Rourke Bridge around 3:30 p.m. Emergency crews, working with three boats and divers, worked for approximately an hour to secure the body, which was complicated by it having been entangled in a fallen tree and other debris in the water. The body was initially identified by emergency responders as that of a male. However, in Monday's press release from Lowell police Capt. Jonathan Webb, the unidentified body was said to be that of a female. Her approximate age remains unknown, according to Webb. He added that investigators are checking with surrounding communities to track down any possible missing persons. "But nothing yet," Webb said. The investigation is being carried out by the Lowell Police Department, the Massachusetts State Police and the Middlesex District Attorney's Office. Anyone with information about the deceased's identity should call the Lowell Police Department at 978-937-3200 or 978-674-4501. |
