COLD CASE: Two missing Fayette County women believed to be dead

FAYETTE COUNTY (WVVA) Two women who disappeared in Fayette County in 2016 are now believed to be dead, investigators with the Fayette County Sheriff's Dept. said Tuesday.

At this point, Fayette County Sheriff Mike Fridley said he does not believe the two cases are related.

The first woman to be filed as a missing person was Jasmine Michelle Cruz, who disappeared from her home in Deep Water on April 1, 2016.

"Officers and EMS went to her residence earlier that day for a welfare check. Everything turned out okay, but then she took off," said Sheriff Fridley.

Investigators said she ran off into the woods and toward the water. "We don't want to rule anything out at this point. There's no evidence to directly support that this was a homicide, but we don't know fore sure that it's not," said Det. Cpl. W.K. Willis.

Since Cruz's disappearance, Cpl. Willis said all the tips have tried up. It is the same problem detectives are running into with Georgia Stone. The Hilltop woman disappeared on December 5, 2016. She also left home with nothing but the clothes on her back.

"We don't know why she left. We don't know where she went. And we haven't talked to anybody who has seen her. She has ties to Nicholas County. We checked there and Oak Hill. But at this point, we still have not located Georgia Stone," adds Cpl. Willis.

There is one new development, however. Sheriff Fridley said the Fayette County Commission has recently put up a reward for information leading to one of the two women.

Those with information can call the Fayette County Sheriff's Dept. or CrimeStoppers at 255-STOP or visit their new website athttp://CrimeStoppers.org/.

Tips will remain anonymous.
