JOHNSON CITY (WBNG) -- It has been nine months since a Johnson City man went missing and police say they are out leads to pursue.

The family of Chester Labar, 38, is now struggling to keep this case from going cold. Amanda Cady hasn't spoken to or seen her brother Chester since October 2016.

"Lately thing have been really really hard for myself and my family," Cady said. "Everyday that goes by, like there is a part of us that is missing."

Labar's family describes him as a kind, loving person. He is a father, uncle and brother with a big heart, but a troubled past.

"My brother was out of rehab for several years," Cady said. "We tried to get him help over and over and over again. I think maybe that has something to do with him missing. Whether he got caught up with the wrong people, or he was on drugs and owed someone money. There are several scenarios that cross my mind."

For the past few months, police say they haven't had any new information to go on. They don't know where Labar went or why.

"Sadly, it is a cold case for us,"said Johnson City Police Chief Brent Dodge. "We have run out every lead that we have."

It's a fact that has led to frustration. Cady claims there is a disconnect between her family and the police department. Given Labar's history of drug use, she questions if everything that could be done has been done.

"When I think of a lead or something and I go to call them up and I just, I don't know," she said. "I am starting to lose faith in the police department."

Chief Dodge said he feels the family and the department have a better relationship than what Cady suggested.

"For them, this is probably at the forefront of their minds all the time," Dodge said. "For us, we get new missing person cases every week that our detectives have to track down. Unfortunately, we can't chase down leads that aren't there."

Cady survived two brain aneurysms when she was younger, yet still she says the last 10 months have been the most difficult of her life.

"It has been very hard. I can't begin to tell you how hard it is and you have to be like 'okay, we have to get through this.' I am a mom. I have a husband I have kids," she explained, through tears.

This is currently the only outstanding missing person case for the Johnson City Police Department.

Labar is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall, with brown hair and eyes, as well as a tattoo that says "Chester" on the left side of his neck.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Johnson City Police Department at (607) 729-9321.

(WBNG) -- Chester Labar of Johnson City was last seen in October 2016.

His father, Michael McQuade, is terminally ill and doesn't have much longer to live.

"When he left the hospital they said two weeks but any time today or tomorrow he can pass," Amanda Cady, Chester Labar's sister, told 12 News on Friday.

She is caring for her father in his final days at her home in Elmira. His cancer keeps him in bed all day.

No one in this family has seen or spoken to Chester since October of last year, when he disappeared without a trace in Johnson City. Even before Chester went missing, it has been years since the three were all in the same place.

"I don't really recall anytime we were all together," Cady said.

12 News profiled Chester's mysterious disappearance back in July. According to Johnson City Police, that story sparked a few new leads, but nothing came of them. As of now, Labar's case is the only outstanding missing person case for the Johnson City Police Department.

His sister Amanda says Chester and his father didn't have the perfect relationship. Her brothers drug use caused a divide between dad and son. That divide could be healed with more time, but time is not on McQuade's side.

He has been in and out of consciousness for the last two days. Doctors say he won't make it through the weekend.

As her father struggles to speak, Amanda carried the message Michael has for his son.

"He would want him to know that he loves him dearly and nothing will ever change that," she said, holding back tears.

Labar is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall, with brown hair and eyes, as well as a tattoo that says "Chester" on the left side of his neck.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Johnson City Police Department at (607) 729-9321.
