Shreveport police responded Sunday afternoon to reports of human remains discovered in an abandoned house.

Police say a person walked into the home in the 400 block of Davis St. in Shreveport, discovered the remains and called authorities.

Cpl Angie Willhite tells KTBS 3 that the area is known to be frequented by homeless people.

The coroner has not identified the remains as male or female as of yet.

Cpl. Willhite says that the investigation will take some time to determine a cause of death and the person's identity.

SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - Human remains discovered in an abandoned Shreveport house almost two months ago have been identified as those of a man reported missing by his family last year.

The Caddo Parish Coroner's Office said Saturday the remains, found June 25, belong to 33-year-old David Brett Becton, of Bossier City. The remains were sent to the FACES Lab at LSU Baton Rouge, which identified them as Becton.

Becton was last seen Feb. 26, 2016, at the downtown branch of Shreve Memorial Library.

The cause and manner of Becton's death are undetermined at this time. No further details will be released pending further investigation.http://www.wtok.com/content/news/Remains-f...-441188303.html
