Human remains found in Spring Lake identified

SPRING LAKE (WTVD) -- The Spring Lake Police Department is investigating after cyclists found badly decomposed human remains in a wooded area near Ruth Street and Main Street.

That person has been identified as Edward Wright II.

Authorities are still working to determine a cause of death.

Detectives are requesting if you have any information that can assist in identifying the remains, please call Detective Wilkerson at (910) 436-7137.

Police: Man found dead in Spring Lake woods had been missing for months

SPRING LAKE, N.C. — The Spring Lake Police Department on Tuesday identified the man found dead in the woods Friday afternoon.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office said the body was found by bikers in the woods at about 2:10 p.m. near Ruth Street and Main Street in Spring Lake.

The man was identified as Edward Martin Wright II, 59, of the 100 block of Lacock Street in Spring Lake. Authorities said that Wright's family said they had not seen him for about two months.

Police do not suspect foul play in the death, but authorities said the cause of death has not yet been determined.
