Body of missing Leitchfield teen found in Hardin County

LEITCHFIELD, Ky. (WDRB) – The body of a missing 16-year-old Grayson County teen was found Monday in Hardin County.

Investigators said two fisherman found the body of Savanna Crawford around 5 p.m. Monday underneath a bridge on KY 84 near the Western Kentucky Parkway.

Crawford was reported missing on April 10.

"With Savanna's case we had zero leads, no activity on her cell phone," said Leitchfield Police Chief Keith Henderson.

Leitchfield Police don't know how the girl's body ended up on the riverbank. Although investigators are not ruling out foul play, they say there is no evidence to suggest it yet.

"I don't think we have anybody out here snatching children up," Henderson said.

Henderson said they believe Crawford's body was under the bridge since a few days after her disappearance, but they aren't sure how she died, even after an autopsy.

"There was no sign of trauma, no broken bones or any sign of trauma to the body," he said.

Investigators said Crawford’s body will be sent to the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville where an autopsy will be performed.

A cause of death has not been released, leaving Crawford's family grieving and needing answers.

"They're devastated," Henderson said. "I mean, I've got five kids of my own, and I couldn't imagine someone coming to my door and telling me we found your child, and they're deceased."
