The woman whose body was found Friday afternoon at a church in Northwest Jacksonville has been identified as Rose Blossom Green, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

While Jacksonville police are not saying much more about the woman’s death, she was the subject of a Times-Union story almost seven years ago regarding her arrest in a strange attempted kidnapping of a baby in Bryceville. She spent five of those years in a state mental hospital after that arrest, according to Nassau County Sheriff’s Office.

Jacksonville officers were called to The Master’s Touch Ministry in the 4500 block of Soutel Drive off New Kings Road about 1:45 p.m. Friday after a passerby discovered the 39-year-old woman’s body in the rear of the building, according to the police report. Homicide detectives are investigating the death, which was called suspicious based on their initial findings.

The Sheriff’s Office did not list a home address for Green.

She was charged in 2011 with burglary and attempted kidnapping of a 7-month-old girl from a mobile home on U.S. 301, according to the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office.

Green walked into the mobile home about 5:30 p.m. Sept. 5, then into a 12-year-old boy’s bedroom, the Sheriff’s Office said at the time. She asked the boy for some hair dye after asking if his mother was home. The boy did not know who Green was and told her to leave, but she stayed and even asked if she could smoke. Then she went into the living room and picked up the baby.

The baby’s father found Green holding his little girl, then grabbed the child and told her to leave. She was arrested a few days later after Nassau County detectives learned she had been picked up by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and institutionalized.

She was never tried in the case, but instead was committed to Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee until March 2016 when she was released, said Undersheriff George Lueders.

Anyone with information on Green’s death can contact the Sheriff’s Office at (904) 630-0500 or via email at JSOCrimeTips@jaxsheriff.org. To remain anonymous and receive a possible reward, contact Crime Stoppers at (866) 845-8477 (TIPS).
