The body discovered by authorities in the Mississippi River Monday has been identified as a 52-year-old Ramsey man who has been missing since May 3.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed Tuesday the body had been positively identified as Jeffrey Asfahl. Asfahl was last seen at 10 p.m. on May 2 when he went to bed in his home on the 5900 block of 142nd Avenue Northwest.

His wife awoke around 5:45 a.m. the following day to find both he and his vehicle — a 2005 four-door black Saturn Ion — gone. That vehicle was located unoccupied by the state patrol at 5:45 a.m. on May 3. It was parked on the southbound shoulder of the Interstate 35W bridge over the Mississippi in Minneapolis.

Asfahl, who had health concerns, did not have his cell phone, wallet or daily medications with him.
