http://www.chron.com/neighborhood/clevelan...ty-11168721.php Human remains found in north Liberty County Staff Report Published 9:05 pm, Tuesday, May 23, 2017 Human remains were found in a wooded area along the 1400 block of CR 3737 in north Liberty County Monday, according to a statement from the Liberty County Sheriff's Office. The remains, believed to be that of a white male, were first reported to authorities around 10 a.m. "A nearby resident of the area found the remains and called the sheriff's office," said Capt. Ken DeFoor, spokesperson for the sheriff's office. "Sheriff's investigators are in the process of interviewing residents in the area during this early state of the investigation in an attempt to determine the identity of the deceased and to establish any sightings anyone may have that would help in clearing up details as to why the man would have been in the wooded area." Due to advanced decomposition, it is not possible to confirm the identity of the person or determine if foul play was involved. Pct. 6 Justice of the Peace Ralph Fuller ordered an autopsy, which could help determine the cause of death and the identity of the subject. Sheriff's investigators are asking anyone that may have creditable information of this unknown person's death to contact them at the Sheriff Office at 936-336-4500. |

May Arnold Rest in Peace ![]() http://www.chron.com/neighborhood/clevelan...an-11171769.php Human remains identified as Splendora man By Vanesa Brashier Updated 10:01 pm, Wednesday, May 24, 2017 Human remains found Tuesday in a wooded area off of CR 3737 in Liberty County have been identified as Arnold Lee "Junior" Coker Jr., according to authorities. A wallet with his ID card found in his front pants pockets, as well as tattoos with family members' named, helped confirm Coker's identity, according to Sgt. Investigator Travis Pierce with the Liberty County Sheriff's Office. Due to the badly decomposing state of the body, the wallet was not found initially but was located during a secondary search. Coker, 35, had been missing since May 7 or 8, his mother, Paula Johnson, said by phone Wednesday. Coker split his time between Johnson's house in the Southern Oaks Subdivision in Splendora, just a short distance from where he was found, and his aunt's house near Shepherd, his mother said. "He was my only baby boy," the grieving mother said. "I knew something was wrong when he didn't call me on Mother's Day. It was out of character for him." According to Johnson, the mother of Coker's daughter found his remains Tuesday while out trying to locate him. "We've all been worried sick about him," his mother said. The coroner still hasn't made a ruling on the cause of death but Johnson suspects her son's health problems might have been a factor. "He was an addict and had been trying to get help for six months. He was trying to get into a rehab," she said. Coker, an ironworker, had been unemployed for some time, she said, and had been experiencing chest pains. "His daddy passed away in 2015 and then his aunt died, and he had been having trouble coping," Johnson said. "An ambulance had been called to our house a couple of times but he had refused to go with them." The family has set up a Go Fund Me account to help with funeral expenses.
