Port Orange police were called at 4:18 p.m. Wednesday to a heavily wooded area on Town West Boulevard. They found a white 2012 Ford F-150, which is registered to Ian Hiles, 41, who was reported missing on April 2. Officials have not yet identified the body, which was found in the passenger area of the truck, because it was in an advanced stage of decomposition. The Volusia County Medical Examiner’s Office is examining the remains and will compare them to Hiles' dental records. Hiles' family has been notified. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Thomas Yovanovich at 386-506-5897. |

Body discovered inside missing man’s pickup in Port Orange Next By Tony Holt Posted May 18, 2017 at 12:46 PM Updated May 18, 2017 at 4:43 PM Port Orange police discovered a body inside a pickup in a heavily wooded area and the Volusia County Medical Examiner’s Office is checking whether the deceased is the same man who has been missing for more than six weeks. The vehicle containing the body — a 2012 Ford F-150 — is registered to the missing person, 41-year-old Ian Hiles, of Port Orange. Police said they responded Wednesday afternoon to an area on Town West Boulevard near Tomoka Farms Road following reports of an abandoned pickup containing a body. Thomas Aiken, a Port Orange police detective, stated in a media release that the Volusia County Medical Examiner’s Office took custody of the remains and will attempt to identify them through Hiles’ dental records obtained by police. Hiles’ family was notified of the latest development, police said. Anyone with information is urged to call Police Orange Police Detective Thomas Yovanovich at 386-506-5897. Those would like to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-277-TIPS (8477) or text their tips by texting “TIP231” plus the message to CRIMES (274637). Ian was born on January 4th, 1976 in Halifax Hospital, in Daytona Beach. He is the son of Reid B. Hiles, of Larchmont N.Y. and Jacqueline LaValle Hiles, formerly of City Island, N.Y. Ian is pre-deceased by his father. Ian attended New Smyrna Beach Middle School and Warner Christian Academy. Ian learned the Ceramic Tile Trade from his Brother–in-law, Shane L. Van Winkle and worked for Shane, until he started his own tile installation company, Hiles Tiles and worked for many successful years for Stark Carpet One in Ormond Beach, as well as, McCallister's in Daytona Beach. Ian was an avid fisherman and boater and enjoyed many relaxing days on the river catching reds at his secret fishing hole and visiting Disappearing Island with Family and Friends. Ian is lovingly remembered by his Mother, Jacqueline Hiles of Port Orange, his former wife, Carla Rosa Hiles, their son Hunter B. Hiles, their daughter, Hope Ann Hiles, his sister Jacquelyn Van Winkle and her husband Shane L. VanWinkle, of Port Orange, Fl., his sister Robin Hiles-Briganti and her husband Frank Briganti of Larchmont, N.Y., his Maternal Grand-Father Pasquale A. LaValle and his wife, Donna LaValle of New Smyrna Beach and Uncles James Gerald and Steven Patrick LaValle, both of City Island, New York. Ian enjoyed goods times and much laughter with his nieces and nephews, Kaitlyn Van Winkle, of Nashville, Tenn., Kassidy Morgan of Winter Park, and nephew Shane Van Winkle Jr. of Port Orange, Fl. A Celebration of Life service for Ian will be held on Sunday, May 28th at 2 PM at Baldwin Brothers Cremation Society, 1 North Causeway, New Smyrna Beach, FL. |
